Its probably been mentioned on here many times, but I just read that Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain all died aged 27.
I wondered if this number had any symbolic meaning to it for musicians to die at such age.

First it ought to be acknowledged that Hendrix died in most unusual circumstances, which I know you are aware of, soc.

There seems to be some funny business with the death of Mr. Mojo Risin', too. Can't forget about Janis Joplin either, also dead at 27.

Yeah, not too many people have drowned themselves in wine in the course of human history.

Has also been mentioned elsewhere gribz, there is a lot of it linked with media fame.
There was a black guitarist, can't rememebr his name now, much before hendirx, samuel johnson, i think who is said to have sold his soul and died at 27 too - apparently, he sold he was given another finger with which to play the bguitar - many of his riffs still ring beautiful today, and can be heard in a lot of rock tunes.
It is said that when you listen to him playing it sounds like there is more than one guitar, but there was only him playing.
A friend of mine wrote a sci fi book about it some time ago, the dadedada code, Robert Rankin, with a rankinesque twist to the tale :D

It's Robert Johnson. Never heard about him having an extra finger, but yes there is a lot of folklore surrounding this great bluesman.

Cheers Super :D
i don't think there is any proof he had an extra finger, just folklore like you say....
apparently he would sometimes turn his back to the audience when playing, so they couldn't see his riffs.
I made it thru 27 fine. Got a tattoo that year.

Ever heard of a thing called coincidence?
Michael Jackson, who various people on here think was killed, was 50.
John Lennon was killed at 40.
Why weren't they killed at 27?
Because of the large number of pop stars, some are bound to die at the same age.

That site gives a mere 25 musicians.
How many famous musicians have there been over the last 50 years?
Hundreds.
It's obvious that out of hundreds, some of them will die at the same age.
This site gives the ages of famous people, many of them musicians, who died at 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 and 39.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_who_died_in_their_thirties
No conspiracy, just simple coincidences.
We've all got to die at some age.

Of course. One is exclusively caused by a deliberate act to facilitate a death and the other not necessarily so.

They are going to re-examine the death of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/sussex/8229478.stm
Also the Finnish media stated that there has been various speculation about the case because of the multiple deaths of rock musicians at age 27 in the 1970's  .

concerning the cases where there seems to be evidence of murder, such as with Hendrix and Brian Jones and Kurdt Cobain. It's not so obvious that a number of top musicians would be murdered at 27, is it?

Whatever, you like using Suzanne Tamim in your list of world famous murdered rock stars, great. Okay, so that's four. So far we have musician murders at 30, 40, 42 and 45 with only one of them, Lennon, truly qualifying for major rock star status vs. three of the top rockers of their time murdered at 27.

Correction, i count five.... six if you include the rolling stone bloke!

All big names in my opinion :D (even tho i couldn't remember one of em lol) But it has been said that Rob Johnson influenced just about everything involving a guitar that came after him

I'm going slightly off course by specifying rock star murders to make a point about what socrates said. Hendrix was murdered for sure in my opinion. Cobain and Jones were both likely murdered in my opinion as well. Don't know as much about Mr. Mojo Risin's or Janis Joplin's death. Robert Johnson, that's going back a ways.
So, take these three at 27 against all other rock star murders and it appears there don't seem to be a lot of major rock stars actually murdered outside the 27 club. Lennon, Gaye and Tosh are pretty much the biggest names and two of those are a stretch to call rock stars.
i know its wikipedia, but they do include a nice graph showing a spike of rockstar deaths at 27.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club#Musicians_usually_included_in_the_27_Club
i read somewhere that 27 is the average age for young to commit suicide, something to do with them realising that they're grown up and they're proper adults now. i don't remember the details, it does sound pretty sketchy though.
having said that, i'm 27 and still feel like i'm 14 or something.

It could be when programming breaks down for a lot of people or it could be the peak of a person's energy.
the first person to ever commit suicide at yellowstone national park was a girl called emily moore. how old was she? 27.
i don't think she was a world famous rockstar though.

Bono was being interviewed on Channel 4 some time ago about being in the rock business as a middle-aged man. He said "What you have to remember ias that it's a death cult, and everyone wants you dead at 27".
