In order for mankind to make progress he has to know why he is on Earth, why he exists and what his being is for. Just like anything else, this is, as if you are in a car and should know how to drive, where you are going, and what you are going for. This is the reason for religion, to teach us how to move along toward our goal and what that goal is.

Religion is given to evolving man/spirit so he will not be left to wonder along life's highways without a map and without roadsigns.... and without others who know the roads. This is a very helpful thing, religion, for mankind. Take advantage of it. That's what it is for. "Religion was made for man, not man for religion."

In relation to this I think a good movie to watch would be:

the celestine prophecy

Conceptually very good and at the end it kind of hints towards the spiritual potential within us.

Yes. I don't know much about James Redfield 10th INSIGHT material or the movie, but yes. When you say, "spiritual potential within"-- this is very much a part of what we are on Earth for, our reason for being, etc.. We are Spiritual Beings. -- or we are spirit beings, not material bodies. This is our true nature. This is very important to know, and is a reason for religions to have been implemented. Religions show us we are spiritual beings.
