The universe is both deterministic and malleable. Think of the future like a canal, through which we travel. The course of the canal is "fixed", yet you can move freely around as you like inside it. Also, who's to say that the canal is not "branching". You can always choose to which one you'd like to go thru at the junction points.

I think as life as an online computer game in which every plays a part, logged in from different locations, but we all believe we are real and share the parameters dictated by that game. Thus everything is solid, gravity exists, time exists and passes at a certain rate. But the catch is that the conclusion has not been worked out.
Look at 'Lost' or 'Heroes' where the scriptwriters are only a few episodes ahead of the filming. If one of the main characters is ill, quits or dies, the plot has to be modified or rewritten accordingly. Please realise that like a game we are not all at the same point and when we die we only revert to another level (or even replay the same life again) but our mind is erased, sometimes not completely.
For those who are benefitting in this game the trick is to manipulate events to maintain or increase their wealth, power, pleasure, etc. This includes events now or in the past! Aren't you amazed how these rich people seem never to put a foot wrong and live charmed lives.
My epitaph show be:-
'Game over. Press any key to restart level'.

I like to think the opposite.
I ultimatley feel like I control every single aspect of my life. From what time I go to work, what time I eat, when I have a shit :D
To think that this is all pre planned would be boring for me, because then we would all be asking the question "Why and where is destiny taking us"

The Universe is chaotic and governed by uncertainty or it's ordered and predestined. I'd go with the first option given the available evidence.

thanks for your replies,
interesting, i can agree that we have a choice and it apears as if we make our own choices or decisions, but i allso disagree.
our decisions are formed and created by other events, so in reality we havent realy made a true decision just a choice based on previous expeirence or knowledge.
i dont think the Universe is chaotic and governed by uncertainty, the universe is controlled by gravitional forces (along with other forces)
and it makes me wonder if we are allso under the same infuence.
the moon sun pluto or mars will all influence us in different ways.
scientist only use the words chaotic and uncertainty caus they cant calculate it. :D

I'll just paraphrase what Forest Gump said:
I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.

I totally agree...the choices were made by us before we entered this game/illusion...that is the free will we speak about:)

hi swoarg. recent experience has led me to belive you are exactly right, and that we are little more than characters playing out an experience. as negative as that can sound at first, it is at least a good way to guarantee that there will be a positive outcome after all this, as it would never have been designed to fail

hi
pleased you agree,
not sure about playing any kind of game, caus i dont think there is some one or thing pressing our buttons so to speak.
allthough i do think there could be a higher being or more advanced species among us influencing our disisions, but even they are locked into the mapped out future and can only change certian events.
i dont think its a negative theory i suppose it would be a bit like the butterfly effect.
when the universe comes to its end, it starts all over again, in pretty much exactly the same way.
