i just spoke to my friend and he told me about receiving a summons to appear in court (via mail) regarding a "violation" ("parking" in a fire lane), which is a $200 fine.
he was never issued a ticket in person.
does he have to appear in court? mary croft (spiritual economics) claims that she just signs off on the ticket:
"Receipt of your offer of contract is acknowledged and hereby returned for discharge and closure for your failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted. I do not wish to contract with you. date BY: signature, agent".
i'm wondering if this will work on a summons document.
has anyone actually went to court to deal with tickets in the US? should my friend refuse to contract and appear?

If he doesn't want to contract he could write "Refusal for Cause without Dishonor - U.C.C. 3-501" on the doc and sent back via registered mail...if it's been less than 72 hours since presentment.

ucc 3-501: do you have anything on file that gives an explanation of what it states in laymen's terms?

i just found out, in addition to the summons, they issued a 'possible' warrant for his (my friend's) arrest if he fails to appear in court. that's just a scare tactic, right? he can still reply as mentioned above?
