Ive got a chipped xbox360 and its had the 3 rings of death a few times, you have to heat the fan up by covering it in blankets or towels to fix this

its a bit of a pain in the arse so Id advise against getting a 360, the red lights will happen to a lot of consoles eventually, Ive still got a chipped PS2 with a huge hard drive so Ive been playing on that more than the 360 lately

best console for games - N64, graphics arent up to scratch by todays standards but has some cracking games, cheap too

X-box live was used to spy on me. When it was discovered by the authoritys what had happened. Instead of doing something about it. They concealed it from me as otherwise it would of alerted me to the rest of my IP losses. It was arround the time that the xbox-live accounts were hacked with CC details stolen from loads of us.

Its either that or they were also using my console for controlling real time theatres of war with special mission downloads for actual battle scenes in Afghanistan or Iraq. It would explain all of the friendley fire incidents that occurred in recent years.

I did see someone, who looked like they were either, a microsift employee. Or they worked for a UK agency, snooping arround my life, in some strange situations connected to the xbox console being sold to a branch of gamestation. Later that same week. I saw them meeting with an award winning comedy writer in the cafe rouge in Chiswick. Coincidently this was when I was meeting some people there.

I don't play online that much - tried the beta test of Uncharted 2 (never did get around to playing Logic Bomb though! Sorry fella - we just couldn't get our timing right! :D) which was pretty good.

I like (and don't laugh) Little Big Planet online co-op play - it's fun :) No blood and very few weapons :D

I wish Microsoft would stop charging for online play though - Sony did the right thing making it free.

Just a message for anyone with a PS3 who is interested in buying the new Fallout 3 DLC.

You are cheaper buying the "Fallout 3 - Game of the Year" from Amazon. It's £29.00 while all the DLC separately would be about £35 and the GOTY edition has the normal game with the DLC packs built in already.

Actually I recently found out that everything you have charged/downloaded can be found on the download list in the store and you can download it as many times you want if you have paid for it.
I deleted PAIN a long time ago but can still download it for free again if needed.

Yes but my point is in 10 years, when PS3 and X-Box 360 have been replaced, the online servers won't exist anymore.

So, with that - if you ever fancy retro gaming with some old games, you can't access your downloads anymore and your money is wasted.

The reason why the US army uses the same games controllers for its spy Drones. Is so that the real time theatre of war special ops that they have kids oversee on their games console at home is the same if they later become a soldier. The reason for having kids conduct these special ops downloads is so that there is no fear or ego involved in the deployment of soldiers etc. Hence why there was so much friendly fire at one time. As children were conducting real time combat missions. Black Ops eh, who would believe it goes on. Maybe the missing US defence money would explain it all.

I'm just going to wait until reviews on it because I have some fps games, but don't feel like playing them. :(

I did not get to finish fable 2. It seems to load very slow on my machine and I only rented, so I haven't gotten the motivation to re-rent that one.

I am thinking about playing it again. I really liked the music.

I normally enjoy games that give a lot of freedom, and have interesting stories you have to figure out. I don't know if trick-style games can be considered sports games, because I sometimes like the Snowboarding, Skateboarding and racing games like Burnout Paradise.

Can't say I beat them that often, they seem to live on the thing. Games are good for getting outside yourself, and constantly ersearching the NWO and vermin is a bit of a downer sometimes, important to njoy the little things in between, like a quick freeforall in waw.

The artwork and scope of some of the fantasy games is astonishing, and some of the imagery in games like Tomb Raider seems somehow..aware, as if the coders are fully aware as we are on this forum.

I think many people are fighting back in whatever way they can get away with, including games programmers and publishers.

Spent most of the time looking for and using mods.
There is a mod to even make your character a Moggle.

I did repurchase Shadowrun as my disk got scratched, I found a webby that sold it for £2.99 including delivery and it also included a month L!VE card.

Best shooter ever imo, buy magic such as teleport to move faster and through walls or smoke so you don't take damage from weapons when active. Enhanced vision to track enemies or smartlink to improve your accuracy !

EDIT: I have a question and need some help from anyone who might know about this.

I have two profiles. My first profile I made up an address without thinking, USA Beverly Hills 90210.
About a year after using that profile I went to buy a card and found it wasn't working on my profile. I called support and they said because the card I bought is from Canada, it won't work on my profile because its address was American.

I have not found a way to change that profile's address to Canada. The country is greyed out and unchangeable. I eventually gave up and made a new profile for my real address in Canada. My 1st profile's live subscription has expired, and I had to start a new one on the 2nd profile. But now it is getting to be a pain because all my unlocks on the first profile can't be used in online games on my new profile.

For example in Resident Evil 5, I have Sheeva and Survival mode unlocked, but it is on the 1st profile.
And in Soul Calibur 5 I have all the characters unlocked, but it is on the 1st profile as well.
I have tried copying the game files from the old profile to the new one, but some games won't let me do it, and the unlocks aren't saving anyway, just the checkpoint in the game.
What a mess. :(

Does anyone know how to change the country of a profile?
Or can I transfer my game unlocks to my new profile?
Or possibly even merge my 1st profile with my 2nd?

Thousands of Xbox 360 owners who have been cut off from Microsoft's Xbox Live service will have to buy a new console if they want to play online again.

Microsoft told BBC News that banned machines will be permanently barred and "unable to connect to Xbox Live".

A message displayed on affected consoles said there was "no recourse for terms of use violations".

Microsoft has barred as many as 1m gamers from Xbox live for modifying their consoles to play pirated games.

"Users of banned Xbox consoles can recover their profile to another, unmodified Xbox 360 console to resume their Live service," the firm told BBC News.

"The banned console will be unable to connect to Xbox Live."

However, modified consoles will still work offline.

Microsoft said barring gamers was part of an ongoing drive to curb piracy.

But a statement from them suggests this latest wave was timed to prevent people from playing pirated versions of the widely-anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

A recent complaint from a gamer has rankled thousands of people across the Internet who don't feel someone should be suspended from Microsoft's Xbox Live service just because she wrote in her profile that she is a lesbian.

The complaint hit the blog the Consumerist on Wednesday, sparking anger at Microsoft for a longstanding policy that suspends anyone who types into their Xbox Live Gamertag nickname or profile words related to sexual orientation like "gay" or "lesbian."

A Microsoft rep explained to MTV News on Thursday (February 26) why the company has that policy and why it might be changing.

"It is true that as a matter of policy, the expression of relationship preference in Gamertag profiles and tags is not allowed across the board, whether that's heterosexual or other," Stephen Toulouse, program manager for policy and enforcement on Xbox Live, told MTV News in a phone interview. "But as we saw when we ran into an issue with this [last year,] we started looking into that policy."

He acknowledged that the current policy could use improving: "It's inelegant. And it's inelegant because the text-box field is freeform."

The latest incident that sparked this debate was the account of the gamer Teresa, who wrote to the Consumerist blog about how including her sexual orientation in her Xbox Live profile left her hounded by other Xbox Live users who harassed her and reported her to Microsoft authorities. Subsequently, according to her account, she was suspended. Her story added to the publicity of an incident in 2008, when a user who just had the word gay in his real name, Richard Gaywood, had his account suspended.

Some gamers commenting on Consumerist and elsewhere think that Microsoft should simply allow people to use words like "gay." It's not that simple. "On the face of that, we have no objection to that," Toulouse said, "except for one simple problem." That problem? When Toulouse's team started combing through all of the complaints they were receiving last year regarding profiles and Gamertags using the word "gay," between 95 and 98 percent were using the word pejoratively.

The stated intention of Microsoft's policy is to prevent abusive language, something that Toulouse acknowledges isn't the case with either the Gaywood or Teresa incidents. His team now understands, he said, that they need to find a way to at let people express things like sexual orientation in ways that can't be abused.

"As social media has become more and more of a thing in the past six years, people are wanting to express more and more detail about themselves," Toulouse said.

One solution would seemingly be to allow users to select symbols or check off boxes that denote one's sexual orientation, gender or other defining qualities. "I think that's a great idea," Toulouse said. "That's the type of thing we're looking at as a solution. ... I can't talk about future plans, except to say we want to provide the capability for our users to express relationship preference or gender without a way for it to be misused."

As for the Teresa incident, Toulouse said his team was aware of the Consumerist post within an hour of its posting but has been unable to take any action because of the lack of details provided. "Certainly, harassing someone, even if they have the expression of their relationship preference in their profile or their Gamertag, even if that may be against the current terms of use in the current policy — that does not give the right for anyone to harass another player," he said. Those who do experience harassment like that should file a complaint via their Xbox 360 or post it on Xbox.com.

my girlfriends son got an xbox 360 for christmas of his dad he had not seen for 4 years..
he was only around for 6 months before disappearing again..the following christmas i bought him all the xtra's..120gb hard drive, mic+headset, wireless etc..within 3 weeks there was a red ring around power button..
I found out this is a common fault..but because his dad was nowhere to be seen, we couldnt send it back for repair..as these are guaranteed of three years.
so i followed a youtube video how to repair it yourself, simply with a drill, some m5 screws and washers..
it worked, after 3 attempts..but when he connected back onto exbox live..which was another present, they banned his console..this was another £35 live account wasted..

it a fucking rip off!!!
he has got about 17 games for the console and want an xbox 360 elite for christmas which are supposed to not suffer the same overheating problem as the xbox 360..

he has fifa 9 which requires updates for team performance and player stats..he is only 8 years old, he has to have and active 18+ year internet account to play the game online which states on the box suitable for 3+ years, whcih mean he could surf google through his xbox with NO parental control..this also cost us 2 live accounts as we set the first one up on his actual age, which then fifa refused him access due to age restrictions :mad::mad:

They 'lost' 750 million through piracy huh? Are you familar with this style of accounting? It is counting figures that do not exist.

No-one has 'stolen' anything from them, and most of these people who are 'pirating' and copying (such evil nasty fellons) would NEVER have bought the game anyway. They are not selling the game on and making a profit out of it. In a sense the vast majority of these 'pirates' are off radar cos they do not buy ANY game and they do not distribute, so who who cares? The industry cannot 'see' these people, they are guess work.

Then there is a bunch who are pirates, who mod and copy to make money, these are the ones who are challenging the industry and who do have an effect on their bottom line.

There is also a sizeable percentage who do buy games AND who ALSO copy/mod for their own personal purposes, which a previous poster mentioned should be allowed; well it is allowed.

Under copyright law you are allowed to make as many copies as you like onto as many other media as you like for the purposes of making and storing back-up copies of the original. Don't forget up to only the last decade the first line of advise for EVERY electronics consumer was make a back-up. When you bought some sprawling piece of software, say a word processing application on 12 floppy discs, the manual woudl advise you on page one to make back-up copies of all the discs in case of failure to one of th e discs. This was advised in the insteuctions and was seperate to the copyright notice of the software, which stated along the lines of 'do not make illegal copies of the software' and warned not to 'distribute, hire out, etc'

AND in addition, many hardware systems manufacturers were open to modding, and would help users if they asked. I wrote to Amstrad once about my WP system enquiring generally about upgrades, and then sent me a chip (after I sent them £12) and a sheet of photo-copied handwritten instructions obviously written by an engineer on how to hardwire the chip into the machine. Most manufactures were small/medium sized and would treat you very well as a customer, and is the genral ethos that led to the development of the PC as a hobbyists machine, as apposed to Apple units that were meant to be self contained. The copyright battle wasn't as fierce then.

IF you have bought a CD, a video, a DVD, a game, whatever, you are legally entitled to copy it for back up so long as it is only used in your home for the originally intended use. Years ago you were purchasing a license for the royalty. Now they are trying to pin that down to the media as well. It isn't just protection of their finances, as you will see. It is also a vehicle of social and political control. They will soon be able to switch you all on and off, PC, TV or console, when they launch Web V2.

And what about those fucking videos I have bought 2 or three time over? I used to have stacks of videos, half a wall's worth, hundreds of them. I had some Trek episodes/movies more than once because of duplications with box-sets etc.

All those titles have gone. Hundreds, that I have bought, paid for and 'owned' now defunct through no fault of my own. I should be able to walk into HMV with my receipt, and purchase an upgraded media version of what I already owned. I have already purchased a license for the royalty, but the media you have supplied it on is no longer playable. I do not expect you to replace it at your cost, so I am willing to pay for you to distribute it to me on a media compatible with a modern playing device. Therefore, you can charge me the percentage of the cost of the item that it costs you to bring the product to market. You can leave out the around 80% that is royalties. I have already paid the actors, directors, writers, production team and studio for this item; they do not have to do ANYTHING, it's not as if they have to spend millions and millions on reshooting the fucking thing, building sets, hiring actors etc. They just have to switch on their machines and roll-out the product on a new media. I'll happily reimburse them for that process, but the've already had their profit margin from me thankyou very much.

And you knwo what - if all those lakes of wonga were being put to good use, I mean say if Universal and Warner Bros and their fraternity were heavily engaged in trying to beat the banks down to write off the third world debt, or were funding try good causes but no, all those royalties get pissed up the wall buying fleets of cars, mansions, constant trips to the A-list spots, big champain dinners, and expensive whores, oh and buckets of cocaine.

So yeah, like I said, they can go fuck themselves.

Xbox 360 takes away all the fun of chipping/modding your console.

It is also being integrated with Web 2.0 crap, I have friends who log in to facebook or tweet about themselves when taking a break from their gaming.

Most of all, the games fucking suck. Exceptions being flagship titles and traditional sports games where you know what you get. So much focus on graphics and cinematics that gameplay and replay value gets forgotten.

How much should I expect to get for a 10 month old 80gb ps3 and 9 games? I dont play it that much so I'm going to put it on ebay. I dont have a landline so cant do online gaming. Modded xboxs can be targetted through xbox live, ala gamespy etc. One of the reasons I am 100% legit as want to play online ;)

My son is 11 and plays COD's modern warfare 2 (with 10 nukes :confused:), Halo3, Left 4 Dead ...these are all well over his age limit but he's well clued up and if someone uses profanity he doesn't know, which is rare now :D he just asks me what it means - no problem, he's not cosseted.
He's shown me Captain John Price "victors write the history books" so I reckon anyone who is awake can still play xbox and watch tv because they are aware of the programming :cool:

Xbox 360 takes away all the fun of chipping/modding your console.

It is also being integrated with Web 2.0 crap, I have friends who log in to facebook or tweet about themselves when taking a break from their gaming.

Most of all, the games fucking suck. Exceptions being flagship titles and traditional sports games where you know what you get. So much focus on graphics and cinematics that gameplay and replay value gets forgotten.

Edit: An example of the text in bold is GTA IV. An exception to this is the Assassins Creed-series (at least for now, hopefully they won't sell out when developing the third game).

Gah,yes GTA IV was pretty much unplayable but pretty "useless",huge let down.I do wish they would focus more on the gaming concept rather than social networking and shininess not to mention horribly misplaced social correctness...example "I can decapitate and dismember in fallout 3 but can only "nap" with the one prosti in the wastes?" cmon now!

Hello hypervisor, I'm geohot

I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days...thats a pretty secure system

Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.

Shout out to George Kharrat from iPhoneMod Brasil for giving me this PS3 a year and a half ago to hack. Sorry it took me so long :)

As far as the exploit goes, I'm not revealing it yet. The theory isn't really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can't post dumps. I'm hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone's KBAG.

I have an Xbox 360 and my gamescore is about 36,000. Gamertag is Camreeno (just as my username).

My Xbox Live subscription expired back in October and haven't really been playing it enough recently to restore it, plus I'm not a big online multiplayer guy so I'm deciding if the subscription is worth the other benefits such as the new radio service and other things. I've been playing Mirror's Edge here and there.

Unfortunately my Hard Drive was stolen so all of my data is gone, which sucks. This was back in September and because of this I just don't have the time to play all my games over again and get back to where I was in ALL of them.

We have internet access and youtube coming, not to mention some of the most anticipated games ever. Call of duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Gears of war 3, Elderscrolls: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City just to mention a few. What will you be getting? :)

Also Forza 4 is looking sweet. Will be dusting down the steering wheel for that, had some top 100 times in my F class Golf GTI in Forza 3 and once I'd finished hotlapping every track was ranked 63rd in the world:cool:

Plus it's alot more realistic. It doesn't take 7-10 bullets to take someone down. Unless you play hardcore on COD.
