I was just thinking about this.
I remember ages ago, watching discovery channel, they were talking about "doomsday" events that have a high possiblity of taking place.
Now, we've been hearing that the sun is getting hotter, and that no solar flares have been happening...
Now, what scientics said was; If the sun left off a huge solar flare in a oner, what could happen is, is that this radiation would fly towards the earth. Now, that happens all the time, but the earth has this protective layer of o-zone that keeps out UV rays and other radiation. But, since it's weaker at the north and south poles, these things get through abit easier. Which is why you get northern/southern lights.
But, if this huge solar flare took place, they say what could happen, is that it would break through the entire o-zone shield, and that all would see for about 5 minutes the most beautiful sky we have ever seen... But when it's done, you would need to get inside because being outside for 5 minutes after that, could cause second degree burns...
Now, this is possible since for awhile, the sun hasn't had any solar flares. But, I think that they will happen soon. Soon enough that they will hit us in 2012.
But I have a different theory. What if it doesn't hurt us, or kill us. What if this "radiation" and everything ends up enlightening us?
