Insurgence Of Dog Flu
2:25
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif - First it was swine flu, but now pet owners are being warned of "dog flu" or H3N8.
There's been a recent resurgence of the canine influenza, according to The California Department of Health. Other states, such as Pensylvania, New York and New Jersey have also reported cases. An animal shelter in Virginia even shut down temporarily over the past few weeks when several of its dogs became infected and one died.
Gary Tiscornia, the SPCA for Monterey County Executive Director, said while the dog flu is highly contagious between dogs, it does not spread to humans. In addition, it's only deadly in a small percentage of dogs. Still, the shelter's on the lookout for symptoms in its canine community.
"A dog that has a cough or a moist cough or dry cough, nasal discharge would certainly be an indication, but probably the most predominant indication would be a very high fever," said Tiscornia.
Tiscornia also said a canine influenza vaccine was conditionallly-approved in June. The SPCA plans to provide it soon to the public, but Tiscornia said pet owners should ask their veterinarians about it first.
"Other ways you can protect your dog is by avoiding areas with a lot of dogs until your pet gets vaccinated," said Tiscornia. "That includes kennels or dog parks," he added.

I listened to an interview on Dr Carley about 6 weeks ago and a vet researcher warned that TPB have created a dog/horse/human flu H3N8 and it would be released sometime in the future. Was let loose on some greyhounds on a horse track straight after the horses had finished racing and so the dogs would get it. Can't remember anything more but it might be on archive.

My cats have already had the cat flu vaccine... years ago... they give it to vulnerable cats... with health issues etc... i thought it was a joke but apparently cat flu is serious for felines!!

Wow, when I saw the title of the thread I expected a joke one :(
Decim did an immense thread on rabies warning anyone and everyone to get their pets vaccinated against it. Story after story pushed the vaccine stance.
All I can see here is the insane push for vaccines, its becoming an absolute joke!
Whats the betting that the usual vaccinations for dogs contained a virus and its now coming out  (or perhaps even the chemtrail poisoning theory is right)

I don't vaccinate my dogs and they are healthier for it:) You know me I don't agree with any vaccination :D
right, we have taken all the guns from the minions but they still have all those nasty dogs that could bite us when we go in ..what if we removed the dogs too? :(

I didnt vaccinate mine as of last year... largely due to the fact that i cannot afford the spiralling criminal cost of the vets consultation fees... the vaccines's about £5 but to walk in the door is £25.... but mine will no longer be vaccinated... lets hope we're right and these diseases dont rear their ugly heads coz we're no vaccinating anymore!!

I had no idea there are RSPCA rules saying they have to be vaccinated now :(
Not long back my sis got a cat and mentioned getting him vaccinated so I did a little digging into the pet vaccination scheme...same old story...
Anyway I told her to hang on until I'd done but she went ahead anyway
Stands to reason that tptb would target our pets, once they've killed all the 'owners'* off they wouldn't want to have packs of dogs forrageing the empty streets, and ferral cats everywhere.* We being bonded slaves, only have equity use of our possesions and livestock. The government via the Crown are the legal owners and can take them away from us anytime they see fit.:(
I don't know about the UK but in Australia you can't put animals in a kennel if they are not vaccinated

Aww I love staffies, my dog doesnt though, he gets attacked by male ones sometimes. :(
I guess I was lucky then! I got mine through St Francis dogs home. A friend of mine worked there and an owner couldnt afford to pay for the van to take my dog to the shelter so I by-passed that and arranged for my sis to pick him up with me.
My neighbour got her dog from the actual home, she was charged a fee and had a home expection to see if it was suitable. Im not sure if she had to get him vaccinated though...
Oh, and he isnt castrated either, would he have had to be if I had him through RSPCA?

I think that because there is a "blip" in this so called swine flue, that they might release something for the animals first, so that if there are lots of animals that die, then that will push humans (sheep) to readily accept vaccinations.
Just a thought.

yes for sure they all have to be done that's the rules, its been like that for a long time, years in fact, but yes staffies are so much fun, mine just loves playing with other dogs..hasn't got a nasty bone in her, really pleased about that. but yep all dogs have to have the full treatment at the rspca and cats too. my dog has her booster coming up actually and she not having it! ;)
I have 5 cats, they never go out as my daughter who is looking after them lives in a flat. Ive never had any of them vaccinated. one of them is 16 years old, her two brothers died this year, they too were 16. If I'd known then, what I know now, I wouldn't have had my kids vaccinated either, trouble is we're brought up to believe a lot of stuff we are subject to is mandatry. Santa knows! what damage has been done to them.:

I WAS really lucky then! He is my first dog and I hadnt realised that these rules had been introduced. :o
I never wanted a castrated'neutered dog as I feel that it isnt right, although I wouldnt have wanted puppies either. He does have the odd fight with other full male dogs but its normally the other dog that starts first.
and the habit of weeing on childrens sandcastles and windbreakers gets me into trouble sometimes but occasionally I inform them that the sea nearby is a dumping-ground for raw sewage if Im in an assy mood :D

your very lucky hun how did you manage that? the weimaraner i had before had to be chipped jabbed and neutered too and she was from Weimaraner rescue ..i thinks it's becoming standard fair now across the board. JAB CHIP AND SNIP :(
i wouldn't put it past them though to do a test on the animals to see how quickly they drop first

Yeah there is a useful link I will post for you about doggie vaccinations and the health risks of them underneath. We used to have a Boxer who died at three of epilepsy yet he was vaccinated and I am sure this was the cause of his death.

A long-time friend of mine who's mum owned a riding stables where I worked and rode there from the age of 7 for several years, she was the manager at St Francis and knew that I would look after him well and since my dog didnt actually set foot in St Francis home the rules didnt apply :)

I dont know if I would ever get another dog, the same as I wouldnt want to bring any more children into this world, not the way things stand at the mo....
I heard some time back about the possibility of making mandatory chipping programmes for dogs. I sure dont want mine chipped!
Im sorry about your boxer, they are such cute dogs too. My dog was swimming with one the other day, it was hilarious the way the boxer swam, front legs right out of the water, proper doggy-style :D

Boxers rock. I got a Rottie now though and she is the softest animal you will ever meet:D I had no choice in my Rotti being Microchipped as the breeder I got her from already does it before she lets the pups go to their new homes. Most breeders do now unfortunately. She did have her initial vaccinations too as the breeder did that. But you hear of so many people loosing dogs at 1 or 2 year old that are vaccinated and I bet it has something to do with them awful vaccines.

I can understand them neutering dogs and cats as there's so many unwanted pets... or do you disagree?
The way i see it is that there isnt enough homes for the anmals hence the numerous animal trusts and homes and charities so it seems to be a good way of keeping the population of them under control as for vaccines etc.. they just do this as standard.. they dont know about stuff with vaccines etc...

They do that already with people they consider mentally ill
Yep, we are next! (oops, arent we mentally ill already???)
Yes Lottie, I do agree with you about unwanted pets etc...Apparently several pets were abandoned during the credit crunch. Gawd forbid I couldnt feed my dog. I would have to just hope he can catch rabbits. As for cats, many turn ferral and dont cause a problem, well they do, more birds get eaten. This is a difficult one :( I think its fair to let the pet have one set of puppies/kittens and then neuter them, perhaps thats ok?

In an ideal world.. we shouldnt have pets... just let them do whats natural... nature will regulate the population but we've tampered with it so much... we've bred them to ridiculous amounts and domesticated them to the point wherre they can barely survive without us!!

Synchronisity!!
I'm halfway through reading this thread when I get a phone call from the Mayhew Animal Home in London reminding me that I am bringing my five year old staffie cross in to be neutered tomorrow!
He looks more like a collie than a staffie and is a loveable little mutt but he does get very aggressive towards other male dogs and he can be vicious with that Staffie lock jaw bite!
I'm hoping the snip will curb his aggression so I can let him off the lead again and not worry about other dogs all the time.
The vets always say it prevents prostate cancer in dogs too.
I don't really like the idea of having him done but it's a case of having too.
I had him vaccinated against rabies a couple of years ago because I want to take him to Europe with me when I go driving there. Haven't taken him yet but hope to soon. An expensive business too.

Aww Ty, I think its for the best really, some owners get really aggressive when the dogs fight.
Ive had abuse thrown at me when its their dog that starts it! Must be cos Im female :(
It hurts me a lot. There is nothing worse than falling out with someone because of a dog fight.

I have a 12 yr old yorkie since the day i got him he never had any jabs, but to enable us to have the GS we had to provide proof the yorkie had had them, so we had to get them done.
Breeders think they are doing a good service in ensuring that all dogs are vaccinated,i wish they could see things differently.
Before we got our GS,we looked to the RSPCA for a rescue, they turned us down because we are against vaccines.
We did get alfie (the gs) chipped though,my husband was most insistant on that:(.
