AUGUST 9, 2007: Over 600 Professionals Call for an End to Fluoridation of Drinking Water

An historic moment in the battle against water fluoridation

It took about forty days for a dedicated team working with the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) in several countries and across North America to achieve an historic moment in the battle against water fluoridation.

On August 9, 2007, FAN released a statement signed by over 600 professionals calling for an end to fluoridation and a call to legislators in fluoridating countries to hold hearings to determine why, after the release of the landmark National Research Council report in 2006, aggressive promotion of fluoridation continues.

The signers include:

• Arvid Carlsson, Nobel Laureate for Physiology or Medicine, 2000
• Doug Everingham, former Federal Health Minister (1972-75), Australia
• Two advisory board members of the UK government sponsored “York Review”
• Dr. Theo Colborn, co-author, Our Stolen Future
• Chris Bryson, author, The Fluoride Deception
• The Board of Directors, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine
• Two officers in the union representing EPA professionals in DC
• The current president and six past presidents of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology
• Two Goldman Prize winners
• Dr. Lynn Margulis, a recipient of the National Medal of Science
• Ken Cook and Richard Wiles, President and Executive Director, Environmental Working Group (EWG)
• Dr. Vyvyan Howard, newly elected President, International Society of Doctors for the Environment (ISDE)
• Dr. Peter Montague, Director of Environmental Health Foundation
• Dr. Ted Schettler, Science Director, Science and Environmental Health Network
• Stephen Lester, Science Director, Center for Health, Environment, and Justice (CHEJ),
• Pat Costner, retired Senior Scientist, Greenpeace International
• Ron Cummins, Director, Organic Consumers Association
• Sandra Duffy, Board President, Consumers for Dental Choice
• Leo Cashman, Executive Director of DAMS (Dental Amalgam Mercury Syndrome)
• Dr. Sam Epstein, author, “Politics of Cancer” and Chairman, Cancer Prevention Coalition
• Jay Feldman, Executive Director, Beyond Pesticides
• Prominent members of the Collegios Medicos, Puerto Rico
• Gary Liss and other leaders in the Zero Waste movement
• Over 100 medical doctors
• Over 100 dentists
• Over 100 PhDs
• Environmental leaders from over 30 countries, and
• Legendary folksinger, songwriter and activist, Pete Seeger

The 600 signers represent a remarkable coming together of those concerned about fluoride and those concerned about mercury issues; doctors practicing conventional medicine and those pursuing alternative treatments and the public health and the environmental health communities. All believe that public health policy should be determined honestly with full attention paid to sound science and to ethical principles.

Nice to hear the anti-fluoridation groups have a voice now! Never had too many problems with fluoride in the toothpaste so I figured the one in the water would be even less of a problem. My doctor still recommended that I try to filter the water I drank (well I drank bottled water so...), made coffees/teas with, and used for cooking/'uncooking,' etc. Lo and behold I finally felt what it was like to have high level of enzymatic activity occurring and being 'conscience' of it. Energy levels increased probably 50% or so of what I thought I had in me. lol The first week I was bouncing off walls, and that was with no dietary changes or changes to my exercise routine, just using clean H2O!!

Can someone recommend me a really good water filter? I could do with one! :)

Thank you.

Aquatec Rainsoft make a few variations of reverse osmosis machines, they are the only way really to get rid of most of the crap.

The only thing is they cost from £2000 to £4000, i worked for them whilst i tried to put myself through UNI, I want one but cant afford one at the moment, can hardly afford to eat let alone worry about my poisoning.

Can i suggest we all email our local water boards today and get answers, i have asked Three Valleys water numerous occasions whether there is flouride in our water, i have had various replies, some saying they don't know, some saying as someone else and some saying we will get back to you. Interesting that the have never admitted or denied it being in my water.

I'm going to include that link in the email, as i get the impression from my replies last year that the person who opens the email, thinks i am mad for asking.

Lightbeing, you up for bombarding Three Valleys Water?

No they aren't, promoting reverse osmosis is bad advice. I have a Jupiter Science (Melody) filter from Japan which is vastly superior to my reverse osmosis system... ie notably superior by taste and effect. It adds calcum, oxygen and ionises the water (it has twin taps, one acid, ph 2-7, one alkaline ph 7 to 12).
Read this (plus video).

Ionlife sell minature filters that alkalinise and active carbon filter the water if you want a cheap portable system, plus they sell water tests to test for heavy metals and other shit.

Just search for reverse osmosis water purification. There are low cost systems available.

Hydrate your cells

The water ionizer reduces water molecule clusters to 5 or 6 molecules per cluster compared with the 10 to 13 molecule clusters found in ordinary water. According to Dr. Hayashi, of the Japanese Water Institute, this smaller cluster size means that it gains the ability to penetrate tissue and cell walls far more easily. Better hydration has been claimed to help depression, arthritis, chronic pain, PMS, acid indigestion, ulcers and fatigue. This is why many people experience detoxification effects in the first few weeks of drinking the water, as it infiltrates areas that have not been reachable with ordinary H2O.

Alkalinize your body

In 1932, Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery that the body can only become diseased when in an acidic state (pH level below 7.0). This is true of all diseases from the common cold to cancer. The optimum pH is 7.4. At that pH the immune system is usually able to maintain a healthy body. When the body pH drops below 7.0, acid waste builds up. A modern diet can be extremely acidic - soft drinks, processed food, red meat, dairy and sugar all deposit acid waste in our bodies creating an ideal environment for various diseases to thrive. Ionized alkaline water may flush out acid wastes from our body.
Beverage pH
Cola 2.5
Diet soft drink 3.2

Beer
4.7
Distilled water 5.4
Reverse Osmosis filtered water 5.2
Bottled water 7.8
Ionised alkaline water 10.0

If you put a single 8-ounce glass of cola into 10 gallons of water, it slashes the pH from 7.4 to 4.6 - very acidic. Your body consists of about 10 gallons of water, which is supposed to be slightly alkaline.

More about Dr Otto Warburg

Dr. Otto Warburg demonstrated the basic difference between normal cells and cancer cells. Both derive energy from glucose, but the normal cell requires oxygen to combine with the glucose, while cancer cells break down glucose without oxygen, yielding only 1/15 the energy per glucose molecule that a normal cell produces. This is why cancer cells have such a huge appetite for sugar, and also why people who consume excessive quantities of sugar tend to get cancer more often. Controlling cancer can be done by controlling the oxygen and/or controlling the things that free up oxygen (e.g. ionized water). Oxygen therapies are one of the most widely used cancer therapies world-wide because they provide oxygen to the cancer cells. They are safe and effective. It has been clinically demonstrated that the spread or metastatis of cancer is directly proportional to the amount of oxygen around the cancer cells. The more oxygen, the slower the cancer spreads. The less oxygen, the faster the cancer spreads. If cancer cells get enough oxygen, they will die (cancer cells are anaerobic). Ionized water provides extra oxygen atoms in the form of Hydroxyl ionz (OH-) that not only slow down the spread of cancer, but also kills cancer cells.

Disarm free radicals

Free radicals are unstable molecules with an electron missing which cause damage to our cells and DNA. Ionized water is full of oxygen molecules with an extra electron, which stabilise free radicals by donating an electron. This makes ionized water a potent antioxidant in liquid form that is easily absorbed by the body.

About electrical charge

The antioxidant quality of ionized water is an effect of ionization sepating OH- (hydroxyl) ions from H2O. This electrical charge is essential to the health of our blood cells. Nutritional microscopists observe under the microscope that when our bloods cells loose their electrical charge, they clump together and become inactive. Drinking alkaline ionized water, charged with hydroxyl ions, rapidly revives blood cells and sees them moving freely bouncing off of each other as healthy blood should.

The electrical charge of ionized water is refered to as the ORP, and is measured in -mV.

Notes on Water Distillation and Reverse Osmosis

Although distilled water and reverse osmosis water is pure, its pH is always acid. Carbon Dioxide in the air quickly dissolves in distilled water forming carbonic acid. The actual pH of distilled water is usually around 5.7 (very acid). Drinking this water will actually pull alkalinizing minerals such as calcium and magnesium out from the body in order to bring its pH up to the 7.4 of the blood stream.

Taking everything out of water, as reverse osmosis and distillation do, is undesirable and impractical. Water is a strong attractant, thus its quality of being loaded with minerals, be it sourced from a spring or simply from a municipal supply anywhere in the world.

Additionally, at a microscopic level, both reverse osmosis and distilled water is highly chaotic in its pattern of movement. Masaru Emoto, author of Hidden Messages in Water, has shown how this water does not form symetrical or organised patterns.

Rather than have 'pure' water draw nutrients out from your body tissue, the optimum drinking water is that which has been:

*
purified of chemical contaminants, pollutants, bacteria, and undesirable heavy elements such as heavy metal and particulate
* had it's pH raised in keeping with the bodies alkalinity, or raised higher still to flush acid wastes from the body
* been restructured to a super hydrating smaller molecule cluster
* filled with abundant anti-oxidising hydroxyl ions

How does a water ionizer work?

Water ionizers connect directly to a faucet at your sink and operate continuously producing up to 3 litres of purified ionized water per minute. When you turn on your kitchen tap, water enters the ionizer which produces ionized water until you turn your tap off.

Water first passes through a multi stage granular activated carbon filter that is effective to 1 micron, removing chlorine, metals, sediments and various volatile compounds. The filter is impregnated with silver to prevent bacterial growth. All contaminants listed on our Why Filter page are effectively removed by the ionizer.

Next, water runs through the ionization cell which containes five positive and negative titanium plated platinum electrodes which ionize the water. Minerals are attracted to either the cathode or anode based on their electrical charge (a factor that also equates to their pH). Water is then separated into alkaline and acidic water as it passes through membranes before being output via a flexible spout on top of the machine. The acidic water drain via a tube at the base of the machine directly into your sink..

The result is that all of the beneficial positively charged minerals of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium are present in the alkaline output, which exits the machine via a flexible spout. Non-beneficial minerals such as chlorine, phosphorus and fluoride are present in the acidic output, which exits via a drainage into your sink.

Aging and dehydration

Our total body water percentage decreases with age, resulting in inadequate cellular hydration. A foetus is almost 100% water, a newborn about 80%, an adult at best is 70% and an elderly person may be only 50%. Better hydration can help you feel younger for longer.

Why should we drink Ionized Alkaline rather than ‘neutral’ water?

Our bodies function best when they are neither too acidic nor too alkaline. Unfortunately almost all of us have become acidic due to diet, drinks and stress, both psychological and pollution.

The degree of acidity or alkalinity is measured in terms of a value known as pH which ranges from 0 on the acidic side to 14 on the alkaline.

Our blood system is always working to keep itself within the narrow range of pH from 7.35 to 7.45. This is a process of homeostasis. A highly acidic blood pH level of 6.9 will induce coma and death.

The majority of the UK, Europe and the world is not fluoridated.

It is mainly the USA and Australia with some of Canada.

Only Birmingham and Newcastle areas are still fluoridated in the UK.

Hi lb

Where did you get this info on the UK? When I last checked it was down to the individual local authorities (who didn't seem that keen to reveal either way), but it seemed parts of the south were fluoridated. I've got my lovely distiller now though, which I wouldn't be without :)

This is the stance from local authorities. As you can see the map that danielg provided is accurate. It appears there is some in Scotland. It should be noted that in the majority of cases the blue areas on the map that indicate a 0 - 0.49 mg/l are actually zero fluoridation.

Please show me your distiiller lookfar, I'm going to buy one very soon :)

Thanks lb. I was concerned about the disgusting taste in the water down here (plus the possible fluoridation) & was desperate to get a distiller. It's not too easy to get one in the UK, but here's my baby & I can highly recommend it...:)

HCC Fluoride/Infant Formula Warning
Thursday, 30 August 2007, 12:09 pm
Press Release: Fluoride Action Network
HCC Fluoride/Infant Formula Warning

''The Policy and Strategy committee last night resolved to advise parents and caregivers of Lower Hutt of advice issued by the American Dental Association (ADA) with regards to fluoridated water.

In a November 9th 2006 email alert sent to all of its members, the ADA noted that "Infants less than one year old may be getting more than the optimal amount of fluoride if their primary source of nutrition is powdered or liquid infant formula mixed with water containing fluoride." The ADA went on to advise: "If using a product that needs to be reconstituted, parents and caregivers should consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride."

The ADA issued this advice because babies being bottle fed with fluoridated water are at high risk for developing dental fluorosis—a defect of the teeth which can result in staining and even corrosion of the enamel. In addition, on October 14th, the Food and Drug Administration stated that fluoridated water marketed to babies cannot claim to reduce the risk of cavities.

Mary Byrne from Fluoride Action Network says that "Dental fluorosis is not the only risk stemming from a baby's exposure to fluoride. In the same week that ADA issued its advisory, an article in the British journal, The Lancet, reported that fluoride may damage a child's developing brain. The Lancet review described fluoride, along with the rocket fuel additive perchlorate, as an "emerging neurotoxic substance" due to evidence linking fluoride to lower IQs in children, and brain damage in animals".

"Newborn babies have undeveloped brains, and exposure to fluoride, a suspected neurotoxin, should be avoided," notes Hardy Limeback, a member of a 2006 National Research Council panel on fluoride toxicity, and former President of the Canadian Association of Dental Research.

"Fluoride is linked with other health problems as well, including weakened bones, reduced thyroid activity, and possibly, bone cancer in boys, according to a recent report from a team of Harvard scientists, the US National Research Council and other recent studies"

However, the committee resolution only pertains to the ADA's warning regarding dental fluorosis as this is an undisputed risk factor of water fluoridation. The resolution is now to be passed to full council on the 18th September to consider how best to convey this information to parents and caregivers.'' http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/GE0708/S00131.htm

This was in my local paper today: http://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/local-news/Could-fluoride-be-the-answer.3160103.jp and to think there are so many people that believe fluoride in water`s a good thing makes me want to shake my head in despair sometimes :(

Regarding water distillers, if anyone`s interested, try www.smartstill.com . I`ve got one of them and it`s brilliant.
