Firstly I am not religious, what I believe is my private business that I discuss only when debating with another on the complexities of life at some very late hour in the morning ;)
But in my topsy turvy mind I was thinking of the uses religion does have. Forget all the bad stuff for a minute and think about this.
Religion can in some circumstances give us a type of immunity, which people refrain from questioning. In many cases its an easy way out.
We can refuse to fight in a war on the basis of religion.
We can refuse vaccinations on the basis of religion.
We can refuse certain foods on the basis of religion.
We can choose certain sexual practises on the basis of religion.
We can bring up children in a certain way on the basis of religion.
People tend to question your reasons for living in a certain way - what your motives are - try to label you. For instance if you refuse to fight in a war you could be labelled unpatriotic, but if it is for religious reasons you are no longer accountable. Any thoughts on this?
