I just tried logging in to my yahoo email account and got this message:

Yahoo! is changing the way you can recover your account in case you forget your password. We recommend that you provide a mobile phone number and/or an email address, but you must enter two secret questions and answers in order to continue.

We are asking for this information in order to help you reset your password if you forget it or you become locked out of your account.

While it is not required, we encourage you to provide all three types of information. The more you provide, the easier it will be to reset your password. Mobile phone and email addresses can be further managed via the Account Info page.

Mobile phone: Yahoo! will not use your number for marketing unless you've given us permission elsewhere. We will deliver password recovery instructions and account security notices to this number. These notices are typically sent out when sensitive account information is updated. Mobile charges may apply for receiving text messages.

Alternate Email address: Enter an email address that is different from the one associated with your account. We will deliver the password recovery instructions and account security notices to this email address.

Secret questions: Choose secret questions and answers that are difficult for others to guess. This information is mandatory to enable password reset even if you no longer use the phone or email address provided in the past.

and now the options for the "mandatory" secret questions:

where did you spend your honeymoon?
where did you meet your spouse?
what is your oldest cousin's nickname?
what is your oldest child's nickname?
what is the first name of your oldest niece?
what is the first name of your oldest nephew?
what is the first name of your favorite aunt?
what is the first name of your favorite uncle?
what town was your father born in?
what town was your mother born in?
-create your own question-

What the crap?! I can't read my email until I give them this info??!!

I wouldn't really worry about moves like this, coz it's all going to be lies anyway. So I can't really see how this works? Anyone with an ounce of intelligence will just lie ans SCAM :)

you usually only have to pick one question and answer, this is standard on a lot of email accounts. I have 1 question on my hotmail, but its a trick question that only my parents would know

if its asking for all of them then I would move on to gmail or hotmail or something else (you didnt just reply with all the answers to all the questions did you? Im sure it would only require 1)

yeah for this one they required two secret questions and answers, one from each set...back in the day you just had to have an alternate email address that they could sent the password to, and i admit i've forgotten passwords before and used the reset password function, just thought this latest message from yahoo was a bit over the top

ps the only reason I forget passwords is when they make me use something with ridiculous criteria, like must have a capital letter and a number or a symbol, etc., or after i know my password they make me change it haha!

lol.

It's more than a little bit obvious that these questions don't have much to do with Yahoo's concern for the security of your email account. ;)

I think this is done so that we ask for the chip as it is so hard to remember all them passwords etc.

Please note it also says something like "add your own secret question". Also as long as you remember your answer(maybe write it down or save in notepad) you can always lie to Yahoo. They won`t come after you for it unless they were there watching you on your honeymoon.
