When I walk by grandma's tv I glance in at that show.
That woman takes legitimatly messed up families, and simply makes them another type of messed up family filled with automotons.
Want to know the one thing just as bad as treating your teen like an adult or without discipline?
Treating your teen like a retard.
I just seen her invade a teens bedroom, find condoms. This teen is withdrawn already as it is.
Her idea of getting to the bottom of it:
Have an uptight middle aged woman he has never met in his life fold her hands together and cover his left shoulder, leaning on him to talk about it from 2 inches away.
Utterly f****ing incompetant and its no wonder he lied.
How in the name of sanity does this woman have a show.....

Poor kid. Imagine being a teen, and your parents saying, "oh today hunny you're going to be on TV with this super nanny lady"

Yep.
You cant talk to your parents about your puberty, but surely you'll love takling to this woman you've never met that thinks half hanging off you while she talks is acceptable.
She did it in the same way one might apply a friendly hug or embrace to a 6 year old while explaining something, that is my issue.
Child or not, hes 13, going through puberty, and her total lack of respect for the very issue shes complaining about is absurd.
It wouldnt shock me if now he never wants to talk to anyone about it again.

I blame the parents. A family is a dictatorship not a democracy. They are too weak kneed to do the job.

Yeah I agree it is a dictatorship, the family.
One that should have maintained it's levels of repect itself.
Surely this needs fixing. What it doesnt need imho is out of touch automation.
The version supernanny gives , despite the bad behaviour being gone sometimes appears frightening to watch.
It's as though she cant discern between a child of 5 and one of 15 as being different.
They are. And when you insult their intelligence often enough, secretly they will resent every word and every lesson taught, despite the seeming improvement in behaviour.

Very true. I still remember fondly the one primary school teacher I had who was both a hard liner and someone who always treated children with respect. Never talked down to anyone. A child is a child, not a moron.

True seems to be on these programmes, the ones with teenagers are ridiculous. My g/f does punishment of 8 minutes in her room by her age, and that does work, because she knows if she acts up again she could get another 8 minutes plus it gives her time to calm down. Its her ninth birthday today so that will be nine, but tbh she hardly ever gets it cos shes cool! :D

Agree to the above posters, its why I never used baby language or anything around my daughter or phonetics to make learning "easier". They will learn what they are taught and she did. No need to dumb it down too much.
for discipline usually having her go upstairs and making sure she knows we wont entertain moods, strops or attention seeking she calms down quickly now as we are consistent with it.
That is a good message new parents can get, be consistent and back each other up. No yes when you know the other has said no. Half the problem kids have seem to be when they dont know what times to obey which rules.

I used to watch Supernanny when I had a chinese delivery job...
She dominates the children with horrible psychological tactics. I'm sure this will work temporarilly but will create much deeper issues in the future such as being dominated in relationships and not being able to express themselves properly.
However, the wildest colts make the best horses. Children are supposed to be running around and making noise, the only problem is society frowns on it. Also the additives and thymerisol do not help.
The American 'supernanny' is even funnier. They make this bitch out to be Mary Poppins...The end always makes me think of the family Anna Freud helped out with psychoanalysis...They have these glowing testermonials of becoming productive members of society, one of which later killed themselves in Sigmund Freuds house.
