View Full Version : Brits fall for Palin NHS bait

bobbydiva

Twitter reportedly crashed Yesterday after Brits fired back at Sarah Palin's comments that condemned Obama's health care plan. likening it to the UK's NHS.

Elite scientist Stephen Hawkin started the retaliation saying "I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for the NHS. I have received a large amount of high quality treatment without which I would not have survived."

What annoys me here is us Brits are ALWAYS bashing the NHS, because it does suck, old people ARE allowed to die when they could be saved, there is a postcode approach to healthcare and they are underfunded and completely in a shambles. Yet as soon as somebody criticizes us Brits we go off on one defending it. That's if the accounts weren't fake.

All this does is defend Obama, and I think that's what they wanted to happen.

Yes the NHS is less than perfect but it is better than the US system by miles. If you are so keen on the US system, get yourself a green card. TPTB would LOVE to dismantle what is left of the NHS.

More Freedomworks propoganda BS:mad:

Koch and Caito anyone?

The Brits are so defensive of the nhs because, in principle, it's a great idea.
The present regime...er...government have fiddled around with it so much that it's not the original product, by miles.

They (the Brits) still somehow remember the days when you went to the doctor, the dentist, the optician...and you knew that you'd paid a 'stamp' to cover this eventuality.

The last vestiges of the previous 'program' I'd say.

Having said that, I too would rather be ill in the UK than in the US.

I had a terrible couple of experiences at the local hospital lately, where I waited with my (sickly) mother-in-law.
Children waited up to four hours, to be seen by the only doctor on duty, who told the nurse to put steri-strips on the wound...
something she could have done herself.
(This is having enough of a system to cover your arse legally, but not enough of one to be either efficient or expedient).

The NHS is a shambles. It may be fine if you have an accident but if you have a chronic problem its useless in my experience. It may be fine in principal but UK is not the only country that offers state care. In Europe the NHS is ranked 19th out of state health care systems - below Greece. I have lived in a country without state care and the private medical aid was far cheaper than that offered in Britain and all inclusive, unlike the restricted cover you get here. I am quite glad that the Republicans have put the spotlight on the NHS and I am also puzzled as to why it receives so much support in its current state. It is certainly not a 'world class' organisation, in fact it borders on third world.

Oh, alright, sixteenth. I think the point still stands. As for cheaper, I said that the private health care was cheaper than the private health care offered in the Uk and possibly the States. It was in Zimbabwe, before Mugabe went mad. Expensive health care is a myth perpetrated by private companies who put massive profits before patient care IMO.

Stop knocking the NHS, you don't know how lucky you are. Actually many people who have experienced different health care systems believe the NHS is the best system in the world. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn good and should be protected because if it isn't we'll end up with something awful.

The point is that you could get reasonable private medical cover cheaply. It doesn't need to be as expensive as it is here and then it would be a viable alternative to the NHS. I'm not arguing against the NHS in principal. Just, as the OP said, it does not deserve the righteous indignation and defence that it has recieved in the last day or so. It operates very poorly at the moment. As for more funding, perhaps, but only after a thorough audit.

There's probably a reason why the Republicans chose the NHS as there case in point and not, say, the French state health care system.

That is totally not my point. This has nothing to do with me loving the US. People in this country are in denial and still have this stupid false Brit patriotism, in the vein off "support our troops, we should nuke all those Iraqis".

This isn't about who's better, it's about stopping either country from getting worse.

Our system is shite, and the US system is flawed, and if they take on elements of our own system it will get even worse.

And I have no idea what Freedomworks, Koch or Caito are. All I know is my elderly nan would have been left to die if we didn't intervene and my mother was misdiagnosed when she really had cancer, and then they turned here away 4 times when she turned up for the operation.

Neither of us are saying that the NHS is a bad idea just that it is substandard in reality at the moment. I can't understand why people who cry foul against the NWO etc. are so complacent about accepting second best from something which is right under there noses.
