lol is that a REAL word ? Maybe it should be :D

Maybe anthopologist is the right word, but maybe not (I'm not sure :o). The word that I'm looking for describes someone (for example) who goes to a party and likes to quietly observe people and their behaviour (cos he probably finds it fascinating), but he also has fun too whilst at the party :D

aye me reckons hunger is right with anthropologist. there's the multitude of "social anthropologists" who study life as modern society is now and back in the day there were a few who were so lucky to get to study indigenous tribes (though in retrospect absolutely not lucky for the tribes themselves nor the world itself). course there are still anthropologists studying native tribes but such collectives have all but been wiped out by modern life.:(

Anthropology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anthropology has its intellectual origins in both the natural sciences, and the humanities.[2] Its basic questions concern, "What defines Homo sapiens?" "Who are the ancestors of modern Homo sapiens?" "What are our physical traits?" "How do we behave?" "Why are there variations and differences among different groups of humans?" "How has the evolutionary past of Homo sapiens influenced its social organization and culture?" and so forth.

An anthropologist - isn't that the guy who digs in ruins finding artifacts of historical human habitation?

Archaeology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Archaeology, archeology, or archæology (from Greek ἀρχαιολογία, archaiologia – ἀρχαῖος, archaīos, "primal, ancient, old"; and -λογία, -logia) is the science that studies human cultures through the recovery, documentation, analysis, and interpretation of material remains and environmental data, including architecture, artifacts, features, biofacts, and landscapes. Because archaeology's aim is to understand humankind, it is a humanistic endeavor.[1] Because the pioneers of Archaeology in the United States were interested in the history and antiquity of Native American peoples, in the United States it is a subset of anthropology, which contains: physical anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology.[2]

You're right, the line is blurred. I've never been sharply clear about it. :)

I'm a 'people watcher' myself.

BTW

We Yanks do occasionally use a 'u' in words but only indicate fanciness.

Example:

I wish you well in your endeavor.

The space shuttle Endeavour. (my spell check is flagging the last word:))

Also, we used British style spelling in other ways to indicate fanciness.

Example:

The line is in the center of the road.

The Centre for Fine Arts.

Don't ask me why.

Because the America has no culture.
So to have a "Center for Fine Arts" would be like having a democratically elected President ... it's a complete and utter fiction.

:D

I think that as a nation overall we don't possess grace or decorum and are pretty deluded about our place in the world. I sometimes amuse myself poking fun at us (Americans).

I truly believe it comes from being a relatively young country.

Most of my family is in New Zealand.
I remember when I was in the UK, talking with a business owner - I asked when his company was established.
He told me it was sometime in the 17th century (I can't remember the exact date) ... I laughed to myself ... his family business was older than an entire country :D

(in British Empire terms)

So I often snigger to myself about Kiwi Kulture ... its like a prepubescent child laying claims to wisdom and experience ... :D
