Hi there folks!

I recently received an email from a 'Songwriting' competition and thought you may like to see what i said- these things take advantage of people and i think it is a major part of society which isn't talked about much on here:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hello.

I find it such a shame that hopeful bands have to pay the 'industry' to get their music heard, for the 'possibility' of 'exposure'. It is a disgrace and completely takes away the whole value of music and its creation. It takes advantage of young hopefuls by waving cash in their faces and creates an Industry driven entirely by money.

These innocent people are also, despite having to PAY to get their music heard (the fee is $30 per song!!), being 'Judged' by a panel of so called 'experts'. There is no such thing as an expert in music- it is a complete fabrication of corporate and mainstream ideologies. Music is NOT something one can be an expert on- music is Pure Creation and this is a natural occurance in Human Beings. We are creating all of the time! How can you be an 'Expert Creator'?

Nobody is better or worse than anybody else- we are all equal and this kind of competition not only exploits creators but it creates a society based on self- criticism, fear, doubt and false hope.

These kinds of competitions should be OUTLAWED due to their exploitative nature and this letter will be passed around WORLDWIDE to start the ball rolling.

I have been a victim of these scams before and i am to make sure nobody is lured into the same trap again.

Your Sincerely,

Jay Stansfield

Hi,
This is Jennifer at the International Songwriting Competition. I saw you listed on gigs-unlimited.co.uk and thought you might be interested in songwriting opportunities, so I just wanted to send you a quick update about the 2007 competition.

In case you haven't heard of us, we are one of the most prestigious and respected songwriting competitions in the world. ISC welcomes original songs from musicians, artists, bands, and songwriters at every level from amateur to professional. ISC gives away over $150,000 in cash and prizes, including an Overall Grand Prize package of $25,000 (US) in cash -- the largest cash Grand Prize in any songwriting competition. ISC winners also benefit from extensive press, publicity, and increased exposure.

We are known for our phenominal judging panels that include some of the most legendary recording artists, most popular current performers and writers, and some of the biggest names in the music industry. We have 19 cateogries that cover all major genres of music, so if you're interested in different genres, click on the link below to see the list of judges for all categories, including our new comedy category (with "Weird Al" Yankovic and Arrested Development's David Cross judging).

ISC is now accepting entries for the 2007 competition.
