From what i've learned they inject you with something, i'm not sure what, but do you guys think it's safe? They are required for EMS/EMT entry level students.

Hmm, I had one done last year, never thought about the health consequences. It's apparently a small dose of TB? Anyhow, turned out to be wrong anyways. It said negative, but a CT scan showed I had it when I was a kid.

So would you say it's best to ask your doctor for this alternative? Rather than receiving the shot? I'm honestly concerned.

I doubt they'll do that, too expensive.

I honestly don't know what the dangers might be, hopefully someone will chime in.

Oh, I should mention that they inject a small amount just under your skin, not like a vaccine. As I recall, if you develop a small raised rash, you have TB.

Have been forced to take the subcutaneous serum or I couldn't work in home health care. It doesn't go past the epidermis (just under the skin) and it dissolves away in a week if you are negative or it raises up in a red rash if you are positive. Never tested positive so I don't know if it itches or not.

As far as I can tell the body gets rid of it and it does you no harm. Glad I no longer do any work in that field so that I don't have to deal with their fears.

Thank you, I was seriously concerned about it!

Are you talking about the BCG? I had the tb vaccination when i was 12. I remember it well as my arm swelled up and i couldnt use it for 2 weeks and it was extreamly painful. Had a really horrible reaction to it. Also it was in my left arm and being left handed it was quite a problem.

I am talking about the TB TEST. That, I've had experience with. Never heard of a vaccination for TB and have no experience with that.
