Would you have sold your old "carburetor" car, when you knew a solar flare could come in a few years.
Governments are expecting those flares...
nasa :nasa solarstorm warning (http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/10mar_stormwarning.htm)
This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway.
"Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big sunspots in 2010-2011."
and a previous big flare (http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/06may_carringtonflare.htm)
Lanzerotti points out that as electronic technologies have become more sophisticated and more embedded into everyday life,
they have also become more vulnerable to solar activity.
The emp's of big solarflares can disrupt modern car-electronics. Those modern cars will be useless!
That makes me wonder why the governments want to have these cars off the street as they are expecting flares.
