Silence is a valuable constituent of the game of life; it is the key that has the potential to open doors and can free you of confusion. Silence empowers you to think things through and come up with solutions because it is only in silence you can listen well, and you can listen to the deepest wisdom of your soul.
In the absence of silence you tend to get overtaken by the mind, body, and emotions. This clutter prevents you from listening to your psyche and soul. To listen to your psyche, your soul and your Divinity, you need to establish a strong relationship with silence; without it we might remain unaware of many things; because when we live on the surface, the noise is overpowering.
It may be interesting to carry out a small experiment with your life. Go some place where there is plenty of silence and quiet. Sit in silence and observe yourself. You will find that in this silence, you are beginning to get to know yourself. People go to the Himalayas and the caves to find a silent, secluded place free of distractions. The ambience of quiet truly engenders the exercise of looking within.
The life we have designed and created and the life most of us choose to live, is an outer life. The outside is a very beautiful world, but turbulent to most of us because we see it that way by allowing our spiritual clutter to blind us; many of us have created a doomed reality with our consciousness- and if we haven't, others have strived to do it for us.
Don't allow this to happen.
However, the inner world is even better, more powerful, stronger, greater and much, much bigger; the whole universe, and maybe more, exists inside you. Whatever exists in the universe outside also exists inside you- so make your inner Self grow more positive amidst your silence.
With our limited mental, vital and physical capacities we become aware of the outer world, but by bringing alive our inner world we educate ourselves and lay more emphasis on our spiritual growth; it is this inner world inside me, you and all of humanity that has the capacity to open many more possibilities.
Many of us make decisions on the basis of the possibility of a peaceful, joyful, harmonious, healthy, mindful and clear outer life. Sadly, that is the desire and the aspiration most us nurture. But when you concentrate on your own intrinsic silence and make that a part of your life, you will sense a change coming, and witness yourself giving some well deserved attention to your inner world, rather than the oft-manipulated world outside.
Silence can give you every comfort you ask for- but with every comfort, there comes some discomfort too. With any outer joy, pain will also be there. Use this pain to elevate, rather than lower your Self down.
Take some time off every day to be silent, even if for five or 10 minutes. Feel it, experience it, observe it and cherish it. For that is the moment when you are with you, when you available to your Self.
When you are in silence, you are the universe, and the universe is you.
As opposed to common belief, silence does not mean absence of speech. It is an inner state. Something may automatically change in your state, in your nature, and silence will establish itself. Even if you are in a catastrophe, no one can destroy your silence; no one can take the inner quiet away from you. Once silence starts helping you, and propelling your personal evolution, you can enjoy the beauty of life even when there is so much external turmoil around you.
So revel in this state of consciousness, for it is not an effort; if you are making an effort to be silent, you are making more noise. It will be born spontaneously with your understanding, for silence is the birthplace of your soul.
It has always been this way. It is always here. It is right here within you and all around you- a stillness, an apparent void- but a void that contains the universe in all its entirety. It's a seeming nothingness out of which everything arises, exists, and eventually returns.
So give the gift of silence to your Self- for it is what you truly need, and what makes you.

There is a magnificent, often underrated ability which exists in all human beings- indeed in all higher animal life- that is the ability to relax the body and brain into the silence of sleep.
Is it possible that that which we call sleep is none other than the organism's necessary return to the Pure Silence of Being? In other words, sleep has been conditioned or learned by the organism as a way of realizing and returning to the ground of Being.
All has come from the Pure Silence, and all will return. The Pure Silence is that which nourishes and propels all life onwards and has allowed all forms to arise, awaken and be. When we sleep and awaken again, are we not practicing the great cycle of Being itself from light to dark, from birth to death?
In essence then, sleep might be a simple reminder to us and all animal life of that which we are within: the gentle, still, nothingness of pure energized, creative, potential silence.
The exact moment you lay your head on a pillow, is that moment just before the darkness of no time, where no thought or activity occurs.
In that pristine millisecond before sleep overtakes the body, there is a drift from awareness of the body-mind to just awareness: from the outer Self to the inner Self; from the ego to a seeming nothingness where only your pure Self exists.
This point, right here, is a space without limit, without borders, without time or comparison. We all have experienced this in our subconscious mind, but our conscious mind does not remember it.
The next time you lay down, try and focus on this 'void' and you may just be amazed: this is the space where your outer world is not, where time is not, which there are no borders and no shackles.
When you rest, you are laying your outer Self to rest and awakening the Inner you.
This is the reason why it's highly imperative everyone must get adequate sleep. So put away your pending work, switch off all distractions and give yourself a second Gift- that of Pure Sleep.
(excerpts from http://www.puresilence.org/silence_and_sleep.htm and The Speaking Tree.)
How To Remain Silent:
When you dwell in the 'I Am', you observe silence in its true form.
In 'human' terms, this is merely perceiving the silent space between thoughts and resting, or relaxing there whenever one can.
Simply stop what you are doing, give yourself some much needed time. Relax and let your body go till you feel your limbs loosen up and your body become eased; you can either do this sitting cross legged or lying down (but you may fall asleep).
Close your eyes, concentrate on the darkness and tune yourself to the silence. With practice, you will gradually see that your thoughts pass through you but the inner you is always present, silent, and open. At times when this silent meditation is conducted, waves of absolute bliss appear and there is often a release of gentle laughter, which is probably the nervous system enjoying a breakthrough from the matrix, which has conditioned us to think all day, everyday.
The best time to do this would be early morning. If this is not possible, do this in your room- do remember, lighting also matters. Soft, yellowish light is preferable to the harsh white light that's common these days.

Good thread pink.
When I'm in the right frame of mind as I drift off to sleep i can get pictures not of this dimension. It's like looking through a mist and there is clarity as if someone has wiped a foggy mirror. I get blown away by the images sometimes of faces and the scenes.
So you could say that silence is like a meditation?

well yeah- silence is meditation. you can't have meditation without silence and silence without meditation either, if you think about it... so when you let yourself grow with silence, you are meditating. that thing i posted in the OP is important in a way, because we've become so accustomed to the everyday hustle and bustle (especially when you live in a city) we've seriously underestimated the power of silence as a way of attaining peace, calm and happiness.
i think a part of you is already tuned into this so called 'void' (actually anything but) so when you get ready to go to bed, you see those images. maybe at that point you were experiencing a particular calm due to a realization of some sort- i don't know what it is, but it sounds good boots, so i'm happy for you.
i've become very disillusioned of late with the outer world in general, so when i read this stuff it felt wonderful for some reason. i'm working on it, and i sincerely hope people reading this can practice it and make it a part of their lives- if not everyday, then at least a few days a week. we all deserve it.
with love.

thanks, i'm working on it lol :D

Very nice post PinkFreud. Too often I see people out and about who are totally lost in the outer world. Many times these people have a phone attached to their ears. Often I have heard others say that they are always on their phones. The message that one may get from this is that these people are not comfortable being with themselves and have inner conflicts which get in the way of them being able to be still with themselves.
Also how many people do you know who turn on the tv when they get home so that they can have "background noise"? And then the others who blare the music in their cars so loudly so that they can't even hear themselves, or anyone else for the matter.
I am not cutting down anyone's lifestyle here. The point I am making is that we need to find time in our busy lives to get quiet so that we can resolve any inner conflict which is standing in the way of us finding true peace.

Excellent post.
I really need to put effort into doing this. For the past couple months, I have
had a really hard time switching off. It is really hard to stay sane with all of this crap running through my thoughts 24/7. If I didn't stop for silence occasionally I would probably break!

Wonderful thread.
I think one of the major causes of urban rot is noise.
Radios blaring, everyone on their cell phones, cars revving, car alarms going off, kids screaming, dogs barking, tv's on at all hours of the day, police sirens screaming, cars honking, people yelling, on and on and on......
Hell on earth.
No wonder people head for the hills on a long-weekend or vacation.
All this noise causes undue stress and causes people to do stupid things and act badly toward others.
And the thing is, a lot of it is SELF-INFLICTED!
Meta-physical teacher (and friend of David Icke's) Stuart Wilde recommends that we all go on a "Silence Diet" every now and then to cleanse our soul.
That is an excellent idea we can all incorperate into our lives.

Great Post Pink, something I found useful, it just happened to me after a reiki healing. I kept 'seeing' my/self/body as my skeleton, my bones, it made me very aware of my posture and how much bullshit we often use our bodies for when unaware.
It also helped my sense of humour, or lack of, as whenever I caught myself doing something with soft tissue, or muscle I was reminded of my bones, and that everything hung on them, and without LIFE, I would only be bones.
It helped me get rid of stuff like opinions, depression, getting fooled again and again.
Of course I couldn't continue living like that forever (or maybe I could) and I am more likely to be in my flesh than my bones most of the time, with all the distractions that brings.
The bones are silence with a skulls grin.

Lovely post pinkfreud. For me recently moved to a quieter area with beautiful views I don`t feel I actually need to practice anything at all. I allow myself at least 10 minutes a day usually sitting in the garden during the good weather when it is here.
Working a lot on my own I so often think of loved ones that have passed and that I so miss, yet when I have this period of silence my whole consciousness changes, it`s a feeling that they have never gone away and during this silence the door to the inner worlds seems to open if only for a moment.
During silence problems of the mind are no longer problems, it`s a beautiful time of the day.
