Hello All,
A few of my friends brought a birthday cake for their daughter from a US based food chain. I was absolutely HORRIFIED when I read the label. IT IS A BLOODY CAKE, look what is in it (below) how can a cake have this many ingredients in it, they should have worn Hazmat suits just to handle it. Anyhow check out the label and the nice looking cake.

Yeah, unfortunately there are a lot of 'cakes' like that. When I buy cakes for family and friends, I go to small local bakeries. The cakes are a little more expensive because they use natural ingredients. I would rather pay a little more than give a cake with the texture of packing peanuts and taste of Styrofoam. A lot of the chain stores that sell cakes don't even use real frosting. They use this whipped cream substitute, which itself isn't even real whipped cream. No personal offense to the people who bought that cake, but those cakes are vile.
This is why I make my own cakes D: I think if you cannot pronounce and easily describe an ingredient then it's not something you should be putting in your mouth.

So, did your friends on realising they'd spent $4.99 on such a nasty product, chuck it away - - or give it to the wee lass and her mates?

Why don't people bake their own cakes? It costs less and they taste much nicer.

Some of us (myself included :D) don't bake very well. I can cook just about anything else well but cakes and pastries. :o That's why I opt for local shops that use natural ingredients.

Not necessarily in fact its likely pact full of aspartame and msg just under the heading of artificial flavouring, they dont need to label it as aspartame.
