If people were united on council tax we would get huge rebates going back to the 80's. As we are all being conned. Perhaps it would need a whole town to turn round and say get lost. No more free ride.
I find the breakdown of costs is interesting. You can usually see that the service is most probably covered by another department of government.
Tis scandelous and nothing short of robbery.
i noticed the council some time back, four years ago or so, and this year when i got a letter saying X amount payable i noticed them again, just as i have done over the last few years ~ and they, likewise, did the same thing they always do, saying if i did not pay then it was court time. So i did the usual and conditionally accepted their offer, asking for a bill and copy of contract etc. Usually baliffs come round and they get very short shrift. But so far this year it has been different.
Heard nothing in three months or so, and then last week a letter arrives saying that the council tax for period 2009 -2010 was X amount, there was also an explination of breakdown of what x amount was as well as a credit of the same x amount becaue the property was 'empty and unfurnished'. Classification Exemption C apparently.
The house isn't empty, and it most definately is not unfurnished.
Now the only reason i can think of for this climb down is because they can not prove a person lives at my address, because i have signed nothing and never spoken to them on the phone.
i was most surprised by their letter.
i'm not sure whether the tactic of responding with 'there is no person here' will have the same affect? If they can only act against the person, and there is no person at the address, who can they act upon?
Any thoughts?
