View Full Version : Colonics? Quite literally a crock of sh*t?

Bizarre as this sounds, my sister bought me a colonic irrigation for my 30th birthday a couple of years ago.

Obviously D.I. spouts off about it a lot, and I fancied the idea of purging any remnants of red meat from my system (Been vegi for 11 years)

It took place in a fancy-pants hotel, was a bit weird but not embarrassing, felt very strange but not unpleasant.

However, it was £60 and as soon as I had it done she was telling me I needed to book another "to get all the small colon clear". I never got round to it, I'm not paying that kind of money to have a hose stuck up my arse.

What do others thinks? I mean, psychologically, yes, I felt great. Obviously that soon wore off. Are there really health benefits to it?

lol, my friend had it done (the same friend who likes giving it to men with a strap on!)

she said it was an utter waste of money.

I said i could use the garden hose on her and charge her half the price next time ;) :D

Yes, I have had colonics done several times in my life. I found that a series of 3 was good enough to clear out what was inside of me. Believe it or not depending on the health of your colon, it can store old wastes going back many many years, especially if one is a lifetime meat and dairy eater. Most of this gets stuck in the large intestine and creates "pockets". The physical benefits to doing this is that as your colon gets cleaner, it will allow the nutrients of your food to be absorbed more readily. Also any wastes that the body does not need will pass through more quickly.

But by all means, do not let this practitioner pressure you into booking sessions that you are not ready to have. In addition to the physical clearing, colonics can affect the emotional level as well. If this is the case, then it may be best to allow yourself the time to process the old emotions that came up as a result of the colonic.

Also feel free to shop around for a practitioner who you feel comfortable with.

:)

Thanks for the reply, delamo.

So in your opinion I haven't had the full benefits by only having it once?

It's so expensive! I would like to be sure that I have cleared all the meat out of my system though.

you know i've been tempted to try it as have had to take a lot of medication and such over the years and a friend recomended it to me(she had it done herself). Only trouble is the price.

I am almost tempted, but £60 a pop for 3 sessions is too much money, I could buy a really good pair of running shoes for that and the health benefits would do me much more good in the long term I feel.

I think you can get some equipment from the chemist shops. what are they called in america .. drug stores... what are they called in england?

you can get a do-it-yourself kit.. dont know what it costs. But it has to be cheaper than 60quid. .. i guess.

Or you could just eat a lot of fibre and drink heaps of fruit juice, although I dont think that will help with 'pockets' in the lower bowel.

and yes, running, getting the daily constitutional should really help !

They call them chemists in England, I always think drugstore sounds quite exciting, what do they call them in Oz?

Try as I might I can not get over the "bottom" stigma. I'm sure that people have managed pretty well since the dawn of man without putting hoses in strange places and they even ate meat too

I just couldn't do it to myself, and I wouldn't let someone fiddle about in that area unless it was for life and death type reasons. After going through the indignity of problems with my waterworks I draw the line at colonics; but each to their own.

Tbh, I would charge £60, possibly more if I was having to venture down there!

The thing is, they don't do that much 'venturing'. They stick a little teat up your bum and that's about it. Oh, and they watch the poo travelling along the tube. You don't see it, it's all hidden away.

It's actually pretty hangin the whole concept aint it??

I would say they're taking the p**s but they are taking a bit more than that if you know what I mean :D

I suppose they must have to have a lot of training (you would hope) before they are let loose on people with their hoses.

I can see why people go for it, but I had to have an internal by a proctologist once - that was bad enough; and it's not the sort of thing that I would do out of choice!
