To Mr. Chavez, "GIVE THE MEDIA TO THE PEOPLE!" is an outraged command that really should read "GIVE THE MEDIA TO ME! OR I'LL MAKE YOU DISAPPEAR!"

:)

What a guy, that Mr. Chavez.

This is complete corporate owned media bulllllcrap.

The media in Venezula is controlled by the few elite who were very cozy with previous US controlled govn't and still want to be. Chavez has won support of 80 percent of the population despite the propaganda put out by these media sources. When he says he wants the media to be given back to the people, he means it literally.

Hugo Chavez may mean well, but I don't really see anything in action, he is to simple of a man to really do anything.

Precisely.

The "free" media betrayed the people when it staged events to support a U.S. Coup. Many members prominently involved fled to the US on Chavez's return like the cowardly scum that they are.

Anyway saying that this is Chavez destroying a "free media" doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. He's destroying privately owned media and replacing it with state owned media.

Government propaganda - sure, but at least the government is accountable to the people unlike the privately owned media that was only accountable to Washington and the CIA.

Knowing the power of the media I would do the exact same thing, even the best of people - the truest and most genuine can be destroyed by the media if it suits their agenda.

If you're slamming Chavez for this move, then you're singing praises for the corporate elitists, the kind that have used the media to engage our nations into illegal conflicts that have killed millions. There's no middle ground here.
