I would never ever argue with U.S. law enforcement. Just go along with it and take the michael in a very subtle way. They would hate that a lot and can't do sod all about it.

Unfortunately (from my observations) the US police aren't as liberal and politically correct as the UK ones.

I think it has to do with the fact they have guns, as you see an ever increasingly violent police force in the UK (relatively) in correlation to the fact they now have Tasers, and Armed support is now stronger.
