The world is in the current state because of man's desire and his need to constantly make profit. Today's success stories are measured by how much money you have made or how big your car is, how many bedrooms your house has, how much jewellery you wear and how much it cost. This constant need to be better than everybody else has led to a mindset of “fuck everybody else” . As long as these people are measuring up to the standard portrayed in newspapers, magazines or on the TV, then that's all that matters.
To these people, the idea of doing something just for the pleasure of doing it is almost alien, if they're not making hundreds of thousands of pounds constantly then there's no point in doing it. Take football, these people all claim to LOVE playing football yet the mere thought of only earning £40,000 each week is an outrage and a slight on their competence and ability. And for footballers you can also read, actors, singers, politicians, in fact, most people. Even Mr Average has the mindset that the only way their life can be better is to win the lottery, and of course it has to be a massive multi-million pound win. It wouldn't do to just have enough.
People have to change their desires from objective wants to spiritual needs. The body doesn't need a massive TV (a film doesn't get any better the bigger or louder it is), or the worlds fastest car, or the most expensive pair of earrings. It doesn't need most of what today's society tells us that it needs. If people stop worrying about what other people think and judge then this desire for objects vanishes as you no longer have a need to impress those, who, in all likelihood, don't give a shit about you or your real personality.
