Seen as though new figures show that murder is at is lowerst rate for 20 years I wonder why nobody mentioned it on here?

Is it because most of you are obsessed with bad news and scour the media (mainly the Daily Mail) for stories that suggest everything is falling apart? Many of you seem to live in a state of high fear.
The fear on here does not reflect the general atmosphere in the day to day world. Could it just be that you are far more under the influence of the whims of the mass media than the so called 'masses'?

If the figures have said the murder rate was the highest for 20 years would you have doubted it because it was from the government? Not a chance, you'd have said it was proof that society was more dangerous and that we should be scared because things falling apaprt.
You pick and choose your facts and trust the MSM just as much as anyone else. If you like what the MSM says then you believe it. As long as it suits your fear mongering. So much for being a free thinker.

Hi orwell :)
It's never as good, or bad, as the print. Remember when they were screaming about knife crime...? Violent crime figures were the lowest ever then too. I don't even have to visit the site you linked to get the angle on it, which is the recession that is really a depression. It's designed to make everybody believe the, "times might be a bit tight but at least we're safer" bollocks.:(
I used to read The Grauniad, every day, until I realised it was just another head on the same beast. I do miss the crosswords though.:(
I don't buy newspapers or magazines, I don't watch TV and I don't listen to radio. Hmmm...am I at the mercy of msm and full of fear or am I awake...?
Do I join in discussions about the msm BS because I'm scared or because it's fun to suss out what they're hiding...?
Now, if there was a huge, hairy spider...that is another matter. You wouldn't see me for dust.
ADD: I'm already on record with my opinion of The Daily Mail but it didn't stop me supporting their campaign to stop the extradition of a British citizen to the US.

Just yesterday somebody was shot dead not too far away from where i go to work, doesn';t matter if there is still a decrease, i just believe its a way of new labour covering up. At the same time i do feel london becoming a safer city, only because of the olympics obviously because we don't want to scare away those tourists, yeh fuck the people who live on the estates.

At the same time, we never hear of the positive things people do in the papers.

Yes we do, that is the whole point of the thread. Plus I posted a link.
Its just you won't hear about it on this forum because most members are obsessed with negativity and cherry pick all the negative stories from the MSM.

Oh yes, apart from this, yeh you are right, its so easy to fit into the negativity, how can we look down on the sheeple, if we are just as negative as they are.

Murder is rare, murder by someone you don't know is even rarer.
I've never thought any different.

It said on the news that some of this can be put down to big advancements in surgical procedures in recent times, in that, nowadays if someone is stabbed they can often save the person, whereas back in the day they just died.

From the Guardian Article you posted...
The reduction in the homicide rate, which includes murder, manslaughter and infanticide, means the annual total of 648 is now close to the 1979 figure of 629.
So it's the lowest in 20 years but still higher than 1979?
It seems the MSM pick and choose statistics to manipulate the opinion of certain people on this forum.

yeah i do agree there is mostly posts on the negative things in the world...
but when the good things are just crap the MSN "thinks" is good. not the real true good things going on in the world. it is hard to not only see the bad.
