I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this headline...

"China tells living Buddhas to obtain permission before they reincarnate"
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/article2194682.ece

I'd laugh at the preposterousness of it if it wasn't for the tragedy that's being perpetrated on the people of Tibet. The human suffering that this ignorance and banality is causing is no comedy. How to oppose such dull-witted evil?

Welcome to the ultimate bureaucracy;
Welcome to the machine.

Yes, strange. I watched a programme some years ago. A young child was put infront of some Lama monks, shown and given various items that belonged to him form a previous incarnation and the monks said he had to pick certain items to prove he was a reincarnated soul. Can't remember what other evidence it took to prove, seemed a bit like flimsy evidence, but the people take the monks word on most things they say.

Anway how would the Chinese authorities know who's reincarnated, would they take the word of the lama monks?

I was going to say unbelievable, but... the world is full of stark raving madmen in offices! There's not a conspiracy in the Building Trade is there?

Do they not know anything about Buddhas? They are the enlightened ones who do NOT reincarnate, as they have gone through multiple reincarnations to become Buddha. They might be talking about Arahats.
