Great.
So they still print this stupid list of people who have more money then sense, and then they complain when criminals target them because of it.

I hate these "rich lists"!

It's all a ploy by the Conformist Regime. They can only control us if we feel insecure, humiliated and demoralized. They also need us fixated on materialism and consumerism. Our belief that the achieivement of material riches, power, property and status is The One Goal of Life, is essential to their rule over us. By taunting us every so often with people who are "better" than us they can keep us angry, frustrated and in pathological hyper-competition with each other.

Rates of depression and suicide are far higher among the very rich than the general population (1995 Almanac). Why is that? Haven't they achieved everything in life that we're told we're meant to achive? Aren't they living the Conformist Regime's version of Heaven?

Rich list :) Cool. By the way, the richest people on earth are rarely those who are officially rich. Even when it comes to money. Those who got the most money are probably not known to the public at all. Wether they be criminals or otherwise.

I agree with you're first post, but disagree with this one. I think they have doctored the figures here, to make it appear that money doesn't always buy happiness. I've heard that suicide is one of the biggest killers of youngmen at the moment here in the Uk, especially where I live, it has the highest recorded number of deaths, and I think the figures are higher than what records show. Ie some suicides will be noted as death by misadventure, drug overdose, alcohol posioning, car crashes. There is no way out of the poverty trap for some of us.

I could moan about it fill a few pages of how bad it is for me, but it wouldn't solve the problem, but you get the drift.

I wonder how many of those on the rich list pay taxes, very few I reckon, whilst those who work for them probably do:D

Hehe :) That would be nice to know. Reminds me of something David Icke wrote. That in the US, they have two kinds of state, and some might overlap. Might not be related to it, but the point was something about the constitution not having any law about paying taxes. Therefore legal to not pay taxes :D I have heard about people going to court with this, but I dont think I know what the outcome was.

Forget billions when it comes to the rotters, they 'own' trillions.

Btw that rich list does contain billionairs, 1 thousand million = 1 billion.

Only one in six of UK's richest men is paying any income tax

The super-rich are using loopholes to avoid paying £2billion a year in income tax, official figures have revealed.

Only one in six of those earning more than £10million a year is paying tax on their earnings - with the rest using loopholes to dodge the burden.

The revelation will fuel anger over the private equity tycoons who are making vast fortunes while the gap between rich and poor widens.

MPs condemned the Treasury figures as a 'national disgrace' and urged Gordon Brown to close the loopholes and help ordinary people instead.

Sir Ronald Cohen, one of Britain's richest men, has warned that rioting could erupt on the streets because of the growing divide between the haves and the have-nots.

Of course; I'm a hospital porter (orderly) so I doubt if I'm in contention for any "rich list"!

I'm also aware that suicide rates according to age show a peak among young males. However the figures I quotes come from the American Almanac; a source which has no political and social agenda that I know of.

The reason that so many rich people become depressed is down to the way material wealth is promoted by our society as the one and only objective and purpose of human existance. For most of us it remains just a dream, a pot of gold over the horizon. As long as we never get there we can sek it and aspire to it; we can pretend to ourselves that it really is what we've been told it is: Heaven. But once we've actually got there, we can't.

Many self-made rich people have dedicated their entire lives to achive their wealth. They've sacrificed their friendships, relationships, family life, spare time. They may have done some pretty despicable things. And when they finally get to the Nirvana of the Rich and still feel empty and unfulfilled, what do they do? Society has told them that they should be living in paradise. It's as if they've spent their entire lives seeking the pot of gold only to find it empty. They may be fortunate, in that they have other things to fall back on: a loving friend or family member, an appreciation of the free things in life, but many don't because they have been so obsessively focused on materialism so for them there is nowhere left to turn. The result: despair, depression, suicide.

The law is also heavily-biased in favour of the rich. Private law suits are way beyond the price range of most people, and the very rich can commit crimes and get away with it. Mohammed Al-Fayed is notorious for it. He has attempted to sexually assult many female workers at Harrods and got away with it. the police have a file on him as thick as the bible, but say there's "no evidence".

I guess when people get depressed they do nasty things.;)

it makes a joke of the notion of the law being fair an impartial. The Scales of Justice, on top of the Old Bailey, should be weighed down on one side. No wonder it was the first building V blew up in "V for Vendetta"!

All that money going to a few families, all that wealth and people are starving and the masses congregate at live aid and still the people starve and the people donate money and still the poor starve and people work for free in Oxfam and still the people starve and die because the few families have all the money.

Figures!
