IBM and the Holocaust is the stunning story of IBM's strategic alliance with Nazi Germany -- beginning in 1933 in the first weeks that Hitler came to power and continuing well into World War II. As the Third Reich embarked upon its plan of conquest and genocide, IBM and its subsidiaries helped create enabling technologies, step-by-step, from the identification and cataloging programs of the 1930s to the selections of the 1940s.

Only after Jews were identified -- a massive and complex task that Hitler wanted done immediately -- could they be targeted for efficient asset confiscation, ghettoization, deportation, enslaved labor, and, ultimately, annihilation. It was a cross-tabulation and organizational challenge so monumental, it called for a computer. Of course, in the 1930s no computer existed. But IBM's Hollerith punch card technology did exist. Aided by the company's custom-designed and constantly updated Hollerith systems, Hitler was able to automate his persecution of the Jews. Historians have always been amazed at the speed and accuracy with which the Nazis were able to identify and locate European Jewry. Until now, the pieces of this puzzle have never been fully assembled.

The fact is, IBM technology was used to organize nearly everything in Germany and then Nazi Europe, from the identification of the Jews in censuses, registrations, and ancestral tracing programs to the running of railroads and organizing of concentration camp slave labor. IBM and its German subsidiary custom-designed complex solutions, one by one, anticipating the Reich's needs. They did not merely sell the machines and walk away. Instead, IBM leased these machines for high fees and became the sole source of the billions of punch cards Hitler needed.

IBM and the Holocaust takes you through the carefully crafted corporate collusion with the Third Reich, as well as the structured deniability of oral agreements, undated letters, and the Geneva intermediaries -- all undertaken as the newspapers blazed with accounts of persecution and destruction. Just as compelling is the human drama of one of our century's greatest minds, IBM founder Thomas Watson, who cooperated with the Nazis for the sake of profit.

Only with IBM's technologic assistance was Hitler able to achieve the staggering numbers of the Holocaust. Edwin Black has now uncovered one of the last great mysteries of Germany's war against the Jews -- how did Hitler get the names?

I've read the book (not entirely though, but a good portion of it), and well I myself was quite stunned by the strategic techniques used by IBM to evade suspicion from the public eye, but still contribute to it's own revenue (both for IBM and the Nazis in Germany and in the US)!

one day you'll see that those "staggering numbers of the holocaust" really ain't so staggering at all....aside from the BILLIONS that have been extorted out of Germany as reparations.

I suggest a thorough reading of Michael R Marrus's "The Holocaust in History"
(one of the mainstream books on the BIG H that converted me to revisionist studies) and you'll be told how the "holocaust" emerged out of improvisation due to a "blind alley" that the Nazis had backed themselves into.

Theories abound. Sales are good!!! EVERY single mainstream and "alternative" bookstore that I visit offers me a smorgasboard of Holocaust theory. I can't find ONE....not a SINGLE BOOK of revisionist studies. WHY is that?

Why did Eisenhower, who had NO love for Germans AT ALL fail to mention this "holocaust" in his monumental "Crusade In Europe"!?!?! This man would have been privvy to knowledge of WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION like nobody else. WHY!?! He could have justified his BRUTAL treatment of German POW's with some of that ol' time religion of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." Despite his shortcomings, Ol' Ike Eisenhower most likely had no desire to go down in history as being complicit in a COMPLETE COMMUNIST fabrication. I mean C"MOOOOOOOOOOOOON people....the memorial plaque at Auschwitz in 1948 commemorated the alleged deaths of 4 million at Auschwitz...today that plaque reads "approx. 1.5 million" died at Auschwitz.
a 2.5 million blunder!?!?! even with all the alleged IBM bullshit?!?!?!

Did it just slip ol' Ike's fine mind!?!?!? he couldn't devote a chapter to the big H in his book.......ok, not even a couple of pages? a couple of paragraphs?
a couple of freakin' sentences!>!>! NO...HE COULDN'T, and you KNOW why!:):)

It seems to me they have added 1+1 and made 4.

Corporations go wherever they can make a buck, morals or ethics do not come into play, we all know they should but thats a different story.

To say that IBM were partly responsible for the holocaust is like saying that every company that has investments in Zimbabwe is responsible for Robert Mugabe or that every British Company that supplied equipment to the British Government in the second world war is responsible for the firebombing of Dresden.

I wonder if all the secrecy was because Jews called for a worldwide boycott of German goods in 1933
