I thought that a people might find it interesting to see a prototype of the posible UK Euro. Maybe those of you in the UK have noticed that our money has changed lately and is beginning to look more and more like the Euro! I wonder why!

What is odd about that? Irish Euros in silver have been available for ages even though they voted against the EU treaty

Its to do with acclimatisation. If you went from British currency to exclusively Euro in one step, people would notice. So you gradually introduce changes to British currency to get people used to handling it. Then when the Euro comes along full-fledged, people will be used to the look and feel of it, and the only thing different to them will be the name.

Get a magnet,it will pick up the two euro, the one euro, and the five cent coins.
On the one and two euro coins im not sure if its atracted to the bronze looking material, or the silver looking. The five cent coin isnt copper, dont let your eyes deceive you give them the magnet test;)

The Euro is already a common currency and most British people have handled them. Why would we need acclimatising to something that we are familiar with?

Also, if you look really closely, you can see that this set was minted as a collectors' souvenir edition in 2003.

At least a few people may have noticed that it's 2009 now, so this is not exactly hot news.

lol OF COURSE! Duuhh you dont have to "look closely" at all its obvious to see that they are from 2003, they are a Prototype for the Euro which may well be in curculation in the UK soon and it wasnt ment to be "Hot news" I posted it for general interest.

My main point was for people to compare the NEW COINS which have been introduced recently to the ones here and to note the simularities and also the NEW NOTES which look alot like the euro. Basically we're been trained to get two the new style of coins and notes for an easy transition in my opinion.

Jim I agree with you..

When you look at the original two pound coin some years ago it was all brass,
but the more recent two pound coin with the nickel rim is a dead ringer for the two Euro coin...

Also the new design coins have now wiped Britannia from existence (formerly on the 50p coin) along with the Lion Passant on the ten and five pence and the Portcullis on the penny.

Britannia would only be erased if you did not want Britain to exist as a nation state anymore!!!

This is all part of the gradual destroying of our heritage, culture, sense of identity and any other idea of nationality to prepare us for the Euro state which now actually creates 60% of our laws as it is...
