OK on Wednesday it is my birthday so im off for a run in the car around kent to find a nice river to do a spot of fishing!
Does anyone know what the deal is - im from Scotland and up there you just go to the council and get a permit for the stretch of water you are fishing on - is it the same down here?
any help would be great!

Aye. You need a rod licence (from local post office or online at Envronment agency). If the water you are going to fish is privately owned you might need a day ticket as well (£5 - £10)
I think you can get day month or annual rod licences.
Scams mainly :(

License?
Suppress the law as it suppresses our freedom
Just go fish illegally like a true revolutionary
assuming you are one?

full season licenece £25
Junior Concession £5
Senior Concession £17
1 Day £3.50
8 day £9.50
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/31497.aspx
and they want to make us pay for licences as of this year or next to be able to beachcast aswell (fishing on the beach)
i didnt mind paying £5 when i was younger but i do think £25 for season which is like 8 months when i only go fishing maybe 10 times a year is a absolute crock. so yes so far this year iv been a few times on a bridge near me, and if anyone comes to check if i have a license and tries to fine me...i will have no choice but to pay the £1000 fine or...push them in the river and leg it :D

Go to your local tackle shop, they normally can tell you the best places to fish and sell you a day ticket.
Such a shame it costs to go fishing.

Funny seeing this thread I was just thinking about fishing permits tonight (I do have a life you know!) it's just I might be going fishing soon.
Question is why oh why do we need to pay big land owners to fish in certain areas, I mean these areas are overall natural. Fair enough some fresh-water lochs (sorry lakes in Rest of World) have to be stocked and maintained but many places are sea-lochs or large inland lochs that really do not need stocking and basically will replenish much quicker than they can be emptied.
They could say you are only allowed one rod per person but as long as you pay you can fish as much as you want so they can't really say it's about conservation.
