I still have to pick up BNW but i'm exactly 50% done with 1984 at this moment. It's a joy to read it, not just because of how accurate a lot of the things were in showing George Orwell's great insight but because of how beautifully written it is with his choice of words. I can't wait to finish it because I want to see the visual with the movie soon as I can.

Wow, i didn't watch the movie yet but viewing the original trailer...since V for Vendetta was social commentary for the way we may be heading...and it can only exist in the form and to the conclusion it did based on the way society is operating today, then seeing how similar 1984 looked to V shows how accurate George Orwell's insight was considering V for Vendetta took from where things may progress to by drawing from how things really do operate today and how they may evolve. Comparing the two, they seem to come to a similar vision.

I haven't read Brave new world in years but I have the audiobook and somehow the narrators voice just adds to the creepy vision of Mr.Huxley.
If anyone wants the audiobook just pm me and i'll see what I can do. I believe I have 1984 aswell.

Equilibrium (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/) is a great flick. Available on youtube here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dH5UAv-JiM)...
part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dH5UAv-JiM
In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it. Written by Anonymous
At the end of World War III, the world fell under the control of Father and the Tetragrammaton: a government that outlaws all forms of art and emotion. Citizens are forced to take drugs that eliminate emotions. However, "Sense Offenders": citizens who resist the laws and operate underground are continually at war with the Tetragrammaton. John Preston is a Cleric, an elite super-soldier who's mission is to hunt down and eliminate Sense Offenders with the help of a ruthless police force. One day, Preston accidentally breaks his morning dose of emotion suppressant drug and begins to feel. Soon, he begins sympathizing with the Sense Offenders and begins to understand the beauty of feeling... A beauty that the government, in which Preston spent his life serving, would like to see destroyed. Written by redcommander27
In the future, after the Third World War, the world is ruled by a totalitarian and fascist society with the leadership of 'The Father'. Arts, music, books, luxury and feelings are not acceptable, and persons uses a drug called 'Prozium' in a daily basis to repress their feelings and feel happy. The opponents to this new world are called offenders and they form the underground resistance to the system, who are destroyed by very-well trained and powerful agents called 'The Clericks'. John Preston is one of this agents, and his life changes when he misses his daily dose of 'Prozium'.

I've read it twice (my brother got my the Penguin collection of George Orwell's works for Christmas 2007), and did a book review on it in January 2008, before I had heard of David Icke (I got an A+ for the review too; a rare occurrence).
I think at the time I said ''Animal Farm [which I read in about August 2007]was slightly better than this'' but Nineteen Eighty-Four is the one that I now think about much more often. I think if I had read it before Animal Farm I would have been more shocked.
At the time of reading these books, I thought they were just about Communism and Fascism, as suggested in their introductions (little did I know).
I have also seen the movie (from 1984) once. Not as good as the book, but still worth watching for sure. Julia's pretty hot in it too. She looks like Sophie Scholl.
I have also visited Orwell's house in Portobello too.

I first saw the movie then I read the book. I found both to be really good, however I should have read the book first.
I am still a bit confused about Mr. Charrington. He told Winston that he did not have any screens in his building, yet there was one in Winston's rented bedroom when he and Julia were caught. I also thought he was a "prole" too. I had no idea that he was working with O'Brien.

Are you sure? I could be wrong but i don't remember there being one in the rented part of the store, that's where him and Julia had real food and also one of the places they "did it", i thought it was a hideaway which was the whole purpose of it...a place to not be tracked. I guess i'll go back and see..

Hey Bryan
I was looking for some feedback on this part. And since you appear to know the story well, you are the perfect person to ask.

When Winston buys the crystal with the coral, Mr. Charrington shows him the upstairs room because he wants to sell his furniture. Winston instead likes the room because it reminds him of the past, so he asks Mr. Charrington if he could rent it. Also Mr. Charrington tells him that there are no screens in the building because they are too expensive.
But you are right about the room being a hideaway for both Winston and Julia to have their affairs.
