recently got hold of a copy of the outstanding documentary film "baraka" in the bluray format. the film was first released in 1992 and has been available as a dvd for years but when viewed in high definition its tantamount to having a spiritual experience. the crucial factor is that it was shot on 70mm stock (most movies are filmed on 35mm) thus the resultant transfer to high definition bluray has produced moving images of amazing clarity.

in ancient sufi, baraka means "the thread that weaves life together". and this documentary does that, with footage shot in 24 countries over 6 continents showing the human condition amongst its natural and un-natural surroundings. no words are spoken nor are there any subtitles, all there is are the moving images and the soundtrack, and they meld together to produce a film that will move you like no other can. it's just over one and a half hours of pure bliss- it's a challenge, a warning, a gift, a blessing. if you don't have a bluray player then it is still well worth watching, however if you do have the means to play blurays it should be a "must" watch- it will blow your mind.

thank you for posting that clip, maybe it is "hope" talking but i just can't fathom any human being watching that snippet alone and not being moved to tears. other humans having to resort to going thru rubbish tips in order to eat, young and old alike having to sell their bodies in order to keep a roof over their head, yet they refuse to submit their dignity to the corporate monster that knowingly throttles them.

i think i was wrong to plug the high definition version of baraka, if anything the level of detail detracts one slightly from its message, but maybe the level of detail works on a more subtle subconscious area in that one acknowledges the issues without so much emotional involvement, and in that sense it puts us on a par with corporate mentality aka being prepared to do to them as they have done to others. we must be prepared to action the complete annihilation of all human life on this planet rather than allow the elite to romp about its beauty alone with a token slave workforce.
