I was gonna put this in another thread but i couldn't decide which would be most sufficient, reps/ancient history, so if mods can move it after a short stint on here to the relevant thread (i.e folklore) that'd be great :D

I was wondering if anyone had any information or came across any tales of nine 'maidens'/'goddesses'..etc.

Where i live there is an old city folklore of nine maidens being taken by a dragon, hmmm:rolleyes:.

Here's a url for the story.

i don't know if thats the most original or if someone has summarised it but it appeared to be the best on the net i could find.

"On coming to the well he was horror stricken to behold his nine unfortunate daughters lying on the sward weltering in their blood with the loathsome slimy folds of an enormous dragon or serpent twined round their fair bodies."

This sentence caught my attention. My GF, as most, thought the dragon killed the maidens and was wrapped around them like a coiled snake until i pointed out it never mentions they were dead and to think more along the lines of intercourse :P totally different huh!?

I started to look at some of the info and i came across a book (Amazon.com: The Quest for the Nine Maidens (9780946487660): Stuart McHardy: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41iNXdnNzZL.@@AMEPARAM@@41iNXdnNzZL) that talks of these 9 maidens appearing throughtout history, I ordered the book but was wanting any other info from anyone who may have heard similar stories of 9 females etc.

Am i jogging anyone's memories? :P
