So I read the back of my dairy milk caramel and it said "may contain nuts, soya and wheat."

Where do these "may" contain things come from. Do they not know what crap they are putting in our food? Is it a case that they don't clean their surfaces lol

Some people are incredibly sensitive to tiny traces of the products to which they react. One of my sons couldn't get anywhere near a tomato without breaking out in eczema when he was very young, and had anaphylactic reaction to certain nuts, which can be fatal.
If the producing factory handles nuts in particular, and certain other culprit products, it can't guarantee traces won't appear in other products.
The warning is fair enough

I get it, but I guess what I'm saying is can't they be more careful? It makes you wonder what else it "might" contain.

I bought a bag of salted peanuts from Lidl and guess what was written on the bag? "This product may contain nuts". D'oh.

So it could mean may and may not, if its may not then its something that looks and tastes just like peanuts but isnt!! :D

The manufacturers are just covering themselves against being sued. It's cheaper and easier to just stick warnings saying "may contain nuts" than going to the trouble of ensuring their products are totally nut-free.

If it actually said "may" then I would be concerned about what I'm eating.

But peanuts aren't nuts.
They are called nuts for some reason but they belong to the legume family.
Nuts.
