The plan is for Labour to bring the ID cards so far in their last year of government that the Tories will say, oh we didn't want it, but it's too far introduced we are not going to reverse.

The same strategy they have for the Lisbon Treaty.

thanks, apparently there could be trouble when the europeans realise that the EU is in fact a british device to snare europe as they failed to do it through the commonwealth. the european union is listed as a corporation in london.

The Tories have written to five firms bidding to supply ID cards warning them not to sign any long-term contracts.

In the letter, shadow home secretary Chris Grayling says one of his party's first acts, if it wins the next general election, would be to scrap the scheme.
