Obama kills annoying fly,
President Barack Obama, nettled by a fly during a TV interview at the White House, took matters into his own hands Tuesday.
Said Obama to the persistent fly: “Get out of here.”
But it didn’t.
So Obama waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked the fly dead in one try.
Without missing a beat, the president said to CNBC correspondent John Harwood:
“Now, where were we.”
Well, maybe one more second to gloat.
Said Obama: “That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it? I got the sucker.”
The camera crew was still rolling in the East Room. Obama didn’t mind. He pointed to the vanquished insect on the ground and said,
“You want to film that?”

Millions of flys die everyday as they hover over roads and motorways and they are slaughtered by cars yet they are metal and have no soul yet Obama knows that to the fly he is a God and holds its life in his hands he could of just let it exist but he used his god like powers to smite the poor bug murdered in cold blood he then offered the bug to the camaramen as a sacrificial offering.
These are dark days for us all

I have done almost the same. I like to show everyone just how lightning fast my reactions are but the trick that Obahma forgets is to catch and release the innocent fly, trust me it gains you more respect :D

Both your responses gave me a laugh :D
Going back to being serious though (sorry), does anyone else notice how lots of folks seem to 'congratulate' themselves on destroying insects of various kinds? I've always put it down to some inner inferiority complex or something. I've seen grown men go out of their way to go and crush something (spider, etc), they could easily have avoided, or that wasn't affecting them in any way, and then congratulate themselves and look for group admiration (aye?).
When an insect lands on me, I tend to marvel at it more often than not. The miniscule size of them, yet the complexity in their bodys, the wings, etc. Insects that annoy (and yes, flys do tend to annoy), annoy. I appreciate that. But I still don't think it warrants killing them. Open a flippin window and shoo them out. That's what I do (no matter how long it takes for them to get the point of where the window opening is). Spending time running around a room after a fly, frantically swiping a towel at it with gritted teeth,is clearly about something else than just the fly if you ask me LOL. It's more akin to how some people will kick a dog when they come home from work, because their boss annoyed them and they want to release the anger somehow.
I try not to kill mosquitos either, if it can be avoided. I wear repellent or long trousers and long sleeved shirts in tropical countries in the evening, rather than idiots who wear day beach wear in the evening and spend all their time being bitten and splatting mosquitos for only doing what they do if you leave a nice juicy body on display. Either that, or they'll go frantically running around a room with a towel trying to splat them with a "Keeeeyaaaaaa!!!".
Mmm, I'm thinking way too much about this issue aren't I  :)
Btw, entrainment (just saw your post), yes that thought came to my mind too.
The guy is smug as hell, and it's really really showing.
P.S : Your releasing the fly thing, made me think of this superb scene.

I try not to kill anything on purpose. I had some fruit flies around and one got in my beer (they love beer but who can blame them). I used the end of one chopstick to gently dish him (or her, without my magnifying glass, I can't tell.... but using the word "it" seems like an unfortunate bias and deficiency in out language ). I personally found it fascinating to watch the fly dry himself off and stroke the wings and straighten up after a bit too much to drink. When I see events like this it makes me ponder life and the Universe which is something I would wish these people with power would do instead of just thinking about their next big "chess move".
I don't understand the gloating over having killed the fly. To me it shows a weird psychology. Is he really that impressed with having killed a being 1 billionth his size?

An animal rights group has urged US President Barack Obama to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he is pestered by a fly after he was shown swatting one dead. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it is now planning to send Mr Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.
"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," Peta spokesman Bruce Friedrich said. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."
During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Mr Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.
"Get out of here," the president told the insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.
He then joked with his interviewer: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."
Mr Friedrich said that Peta has been pleased with Mr Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights, and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.
But "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect", Mr Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't".

Most mature sensible people in positions of authority would have simply flapped it away and paid little heed, and got on with the interview. Obama acted like a three year old boy, the way he planned his move, and getting a kick out of his successful 'skills' and the attention he was getting from the interviewer, and even gloating over its demise like it was one of us.
It says a lot more about this man's personality than you might first think.
Totally immature if not worse!

It's the way he did it which bothers me more than the swattiing the fly. It's something G W Bush would do and be proud of. It shows how concerned and serious he is about the situation the world is in by capering on like this in interview, but everything is about attention to this man.

Have no doubt that there was some symbolism in this gesture.
Everything he does or says symbolises something...
Was the fly representing N Korea or Iran, or maybe all the little people who are getting shafted with bail out after bail out.
either way, it meant something........
