There is two, too and to.
There is whether and weather.
theres a funny little rhyme about the weather, lol
" a whether went out in the weather
whether he liked it or not
I think he forgot altogether
whether the weather was hot, or not."

Because they're lazy. I often notice I do the same mistake, like type their when I mean to say they're, but I check afterwards. Everyone should care enough about their language not to let laziness undermine it.

People seem to have trouble with "there/their/they're" as well as "your/you're" and almost as common is the use of "alot" instead of "a lot" as this is actually two words, not one.

Again, if a person's skill at English is limited, such mistakes are easy to tolerate. But I've noticed so many English and Americans doing stupid language mistakes on the face of the internet.
I'm understanding of the fact that people are not perfect, they make mistakes. There are many things they can't control. Their use of language is one thing they can control. Using correct language is one way of being considerate of others.

No, it's not an excuse, merely an observation. If you have never been trained to do something correctly, then it is acceptable to make mistakes.
I am not blaming anyone for anything, that would be incredibly pointless, merely observing.

yeah like tossing around words like asswanker...wtf is that I still havent figured out what a wanker is:D
When using the word in a standard context you could say Simon Cowell is one and very few people would disagree with you. In other usage, acts of onanism are impossible without being one, which would mean most of the world are wankers.
'Asswanker' is a fantastic insult and I look forward to using it on a regular basis.
As for this debate on spelling, I am a teacher and I have seen standards in the use of the English language gradually fall over the last 15 years.
Technology is replacing human thought. Since spell checkers were introduced people don't think about what they are writing and faults are corrected automatically. Unfortunately, a spell checker will overlook improper use of 'there' and 'their', so mistakes are becoming more frequent.
Because the spellchecker allows improper use of certain phrases, people assume their writing is correct and the process of error becomes a habit.
However, what we should be more concerned about is the introduction of texting into conventional lanuage. I have seen this creeping into written documents and it would appear language is slowly evolving to a point where things like 'gr8t! c u 2morrow' may eventually form part of conventional written English in an official capacity.
This means any old 'asswanker' will be able to get a degree as long as they know how to turn a computer on and select the right option from a drop-down menu.
In a worst case scenario, we could end up in a country populated by people who are computer literate but absolutely useless at everything else because a computer sorts it all out for them.
We should lament the dumbing down of eductional standards because these simpletons may eventually end up working for the NHS or the police force if the asswankers in the LSC allow it to continue (Asswankers).

Some of them certainly. If you are a tutor/teacher it can be amazingly frustrating when students need to be taught how to spell before they can even start writing an essay - it wastes so much time and the only reason they get onto a course is because the institution have to make up the numbers. It's maddening.
Alarmingly high numbers of these people are leaving college with qualifications they do not deserve, simply because of the 'target-based' strategies sent down from above. Since money appears to run everything these days, being a teacher is occasionally comparable to working in retail.
For example if you are a department co-ordinator, you will often get messages like this -
Attendance needs to be up 5% on last year
Student retention needs to be 10% higher in the new year
If the student retention doesn't meet the target you are hauled in for urgent talks. Without giving too much away, certain lecturers are being creative with their marking systems rather than put their career in jeopardy. Tutors are under enormous amounts of pressure from all sides.
End result - a high number of students leaving college with a qualification will be asswankers. They will obtain a well paid job, but they will have absolutely no idea of how to do anything. We can only hope these asswankers are not performing surgery or heading murder enquiries.
As for the word 'asswanker' - that's how I found the word I'm afraid. It was broken when I got there. If you want to ammend the term with a hyphen go for it. Maybe we should write the Oxford dictionary definition right now and send it in. A word like asswanker is so good it deserves to be in the dictionary, hyphen or not! It shall be the law!

This isn't a forum of English teachers now. In fact.."authentic" spelling is a rather recent thing. back when English was a young language many of the philosophers and writers had their own way to spell certain words as long as they sounded like the words they wanted to portray. If you ever read some of the letters of the freemason agents like john adams ect...they all spelled certain words differently but they all sounded like the word in which they wanted to express..
It does look cleaner now though...but forum language is not the same as academic language..and anyhow..who should try to force you into their conception of what language should be?

I agree that languages change, and there are different dialects, colloquial and written language differ. But this is written language, now we have a common system we can use. It's very clear which is the correct usage when comparing their and they're, or your and you're. It's not a case of different spelling. The meaning is completely different.
If you wanna go all liberal and accept all sorts of rampant use of unconventional language why don't I call a dog a parrot, and you know those things forests are full of, those wooden things with leaves? I call them sky-sofas.
What's different when comparing to the past is that written language is used in relatively real time, in forums, IRC, text messages. In the past it was mainly used in books and letters, and delivering one took a week at best. The role of written language is changing, and a sort of colloquial or slang form is written language has already developed. Example of this are expressions like "I C U" (I see you). While I wouldn't encourage it, I have to accept it as valid use of language. But confusing their and they're is simply a mistake, if we accept one mistake, soon we'll accept another. Then language will be truly dumbed down.

Words spelled differently for phonetic clarification is different than abbreviation and swapping of letters to symbolize different symbols.

Edit: I just think there are more important issues to be discussed than belittling people over a such an insignificant thing as grammar, as what counts are the messages, points of view, and ideas. The only people who truly put a big emphasis on such a thing and use it as a badge of honor, are those who still buy into the system of oppression currently gripping the world.
If it were in my ability to fix said important things, I would as people such as yourself are not reliable because all you do is contribute negativity. I'd rather end world hunger or the NWO or something, but since I don't have any practical solution to that, I'll just bitch about language. I do have several working theories why we should not become lax in our language usage. What I don't have on the other hand is, how to make people listen to me. I guess that's what the NWO and fascism are for.
Why don't you come up with a better retort than "I think there are more important issues right now than being grammatically correct..."? You know a small hole in a dam can cause the whole thing to break if left untended.

Yes, because grammar is as vitally important as preserving a dam from annihilating countless lives.
My point is, people are rude about it, and I find it bad form. It mirrors the same system that has kept cultures down since before recorded history. The way it's been talked about is just another way to shit on another person, and it's appalling.
As I said, there are more important things to concern yourself with than how someone else spells a word or forms a sentence... It's threads like this which distract people from the real issues, and responses like yours which make my faith in humanity waver.

I'm being rude about it since the people using bad grammar are being rude about it. They say stuff like this (the first "pro-bad spelling post):
Ha ha,
who gives a fucking damn if people get their spelling wrong, who are you, the grammar police, I cant spell that well, so who cares!!!!!
you silly sod.
with all the love and peace going on in the world :D , you bother about a bit of spelling mistakes, huh! cracking me up here, wanker !!1:D:D:D:D
You don't think that's rude and they just don't seem to care. Why should I care if I shit on your lawn, after all it's not my lawn?
If someone said "Oh English is so hard, and I've been trying so hard, but I still fuck up", I wouldn't be so rude about it. Instead they are "I do what I want, fuck you." They're the ones without compassion or consideration.
It's responses like yours that makes my faith in humanity waver. If people can't get simple, insignificant details like that right, how the do you think they can manage a whole world with 6 billion people, and numerous different cultures and religions in it. The devil (or some thing) is in the details.
Didn't one of the NASA space shuttles crash a few years back, because they made a small calculation error in converting from the metric system to the imperial system or something along those lines? Grammatical mistakes aren't as big a problem, I'll grant you that, but my point is, every fucking detail matters. You can't say "it's just a minor thing, it doesn't matter". I'm not saying to grow gray hairs over grammar, quite the opposite. It's something we should do without thinking just because it's right. Like flushing the toilet after using it. It's not a big thing, but hell of annoying if someone doesn't do it.

Not half as fucking annoying as people that can't seem to untangle the mystery between "Then" and "Than"...... FUCK!!!! That's gotta be the worst!!!
Hear hear.
Use spell check please!
woman: singular meaning one.
women: plural meaning more than one. Than,ex: I'd rather have this one than that one. Then: ex: Cut the grass for me.Then you can go off and play with your friends.
Any questions?

Why do people not use they, their, they're correctly???? Does it annoy anyone???It does annoy me and especially when American people write then for than. Two completely different meanings and where as it might not seem important, it only serves to confuse when they are writing about important subjects.

It's far from trivial. It's being inconsiderate if one does not try their best to write in an understandable manner.
If it's a non native speaker having problems, I can understand. If it's a native speaker having problems (doesn't have dyslexia), they have to try harder. If you can't even write your own language properly what are you?
It's the little things that make the big things. We can't ignore problems just because they're "trivial". The fortunes of Scrooge McDuck began with one penny (or cent or something).
If you don't like the thread, stay out. But I guess some people just have to point out how morally superior they are, since they don't care if the linguistic fabric of society if collapsing.

Who do you think you're telling to stay out of threads sunshine?
I think you'll find I'm as entitled to comment as you are. ;)
And it is relatively trivial in the great scheme of things - your bollocking people for 'not trying hard enough' is futile and condescending.
Apart from posts where people have clearly been stoned, I've never yet seen one that I couldn't understand, because they used the wrong spelling for there/their etc, or neglected to capitalise. Maybe if these errors render them impossible for you to comprehend, it's you who needs to try a bit harder.
If you're someone who can't even write your own language properly, you could very possibly be someone who has a better than average ability in maths or science, I dare say.
Get over it!

You're clearly not concerned about this topic, so why would you wanna post here anyway? I don't go bitch on every thread that doesn't interest me saying "Boring, find something else to do".
I admit it's often futile to try to make people change their ways, but at least we can bitch and whine about it when people are being assholes just because they don't care. Some of us care deeply about language, it's comforting to see I'm not alone. It's nice to whine about it with others. Who knows, maybe there's a scientist here (who can't spell) who can build some sort of microchip to implant into people so they can spell.
One can always hope.
I have every right to be condecending to people who just laugh "I fuck up, so what?"
Talking about more "important" issues like pedophilia or police brutality, I just don't see the point in whining about it. It's obvious it's wrong. There's not much to say about it. It's the smaller issues, which are often ignored, that need more attention.
Why do people not use they, their, they're correctly???? Does it annoy anyone???

I hope this kind of 'bitching' and 'whining' doesn't deter others from posting, for fear of being attacked over their literacy skills. I feel that would be a shame.
And if you're determined to criticise others' poor use of English, you really should spell condescending properly - oh and it's "want to", not "wanna"!

This is one thread. I don't "flame" people on other threads for bad spelling. If their self-confidence is so weak that one thread deters them from posting, I'd say they have "more important" problems than bad spelling. (Oh no, every sentence in this paragraph has the word "thread". Repetition is bad, bad, bad, bad...)
And if you're determined to criticise others' poor use of English, you really should spell condescending properly - oh and it's "want to", not "wanna"!
Oh burn.
I'd say "wanna" is a word of the English language. It's just a colloquial version of "want to". It's not a mistake, like mixing up "their" and "they're". Like I said in a post waaaaaaay back in the beginning, I occasionally make the same mistake everyone else does. That's why I try to pay attention to it.

The OP was:
Why do people not use they, their, they're correctly???? Does it annoy anyone???
I think those particular mistakes are more common among native speakers of English, not non-natives. In other languages those three words probably do not resemble each other. If in their mind the non-native speaker translates something he wants to say from his own language, the mixing up of they, their, and they're does not occur. Unless that person is thinking in English already, in which case it's hard to argue their English skills are limited. It's a phonetic problem, not a semantic one. I'd think non-native speakers have more difficulties with semantics, not phonetics when writing English.
I'm also a non-native speaker of English. If I am able to distinguish the difference between those three words, native speakers sure as well should. If that makes me a snob, oh well then.
