Teenager faces prosecution for calling Scientology ‘cult’

Anil Dawar June 1, 2009.

Print: The Guardian
A teenager is facing prosecution for using the word “cult” to describe the
Church of Scientology.

The unnamed 15-year-old was served the summons by City of London police when
he took part in a peaceful demonstration opposite the London headquarters of
the controversial religion.

Officers confiscated a placard with the word “cult” on it from the youth,
who is under 18, and a case file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution
Service.

A date has not yet been set for him to appear in court.

The decision to issue the summons has angered human rights activists and
support groups for the victims of cults.

The incident happened during a protest against the Church of Scientology on
May 10. Demonstrators from the anti-Scientology group, Anonymous, who were
outside the church’s £23m headquarters near St Paul’s cathedral, were banned
by police from describing Scientology as a cult by police because it was
“abusive and insulting”.

Writing on an anti-Scientology website, the teenager facing court said: “I
brought a sign to the May 10th protest that said: ‘Scientology is not a
religion, it is a dangerous cult.’

“‘Within five minutes of arriving I was told by a member of the police that
I was not allowed to use that word, and that the final decision would be
made by the inspector.”

A policewoman later read him section five of the Public Order Act and
“strongly advised” him to remove the sign. The section prohibits signs which
have representations or words which are threatening, abusive or insulting.

The teenager refused to back down, quoting a 1984 high court ruling from Mr.
Justice Latey, in which he described the Church of Scientology as a “cult”
which was “corrupt, sinister and dangerous”.

After the exchange, a policewoman handed him a court summons and removed his
sign.

On the website he asks for advice on how to fight the charge: “What’s the
likelihood I’ll need a lawyer? If I do have to get one, it’ll have to come
out of my pocket money.”

Writing on the same website, another anonymous demonstrator said: “We also
protested outside another Scientology building in Tottenham Court Road which
is policed by a separate force, the Metropolitan police, who have never
tried to stop us using the word cult.

“We’re completely peaceful protesters expressing a perfectly valid opinion.
This whole thing stinks.”

Liberty director, Shami Chakrabarti, said: “This barmy prosecution makes a
mockery of Britain’s free speech traditions.

“After criminalising the use of the word ‘cult’, perhaps the next step is to
ban the words ‘war’ and ‘tax’ from peaceful demonstrations?”

Ian Haworth, from the Cult Information Centre which provides advice for
victims of cults and their families, said: “This is an extraordinary
situation. If it wasn’t so serious it would be farcical. The police’s job is
to protect and serve. Who is being served and who is being protected in this
situation? I find it very worrying.

“Scientology is well known to my organisation, and has been of great concern
to me for 22 years. I get many calls from families with loved ones involved
and ex-members who are in need of one form of help.”

The City of London police came under fire two years ago when it emerged that
more than 20 officers, ranging from constable to chief superintendent, had
accepted gifts worth thousands of pounds from the Church of Scientology.

The City of London Chief Superintendent, Kevin Hurley, praised Scientology
for “raising the spiritual wealth of society” during the opening
of its headquarters in 2006.

Last year a video praising Scientology emerged featuring Ken Stewart,
another of the City of London’s chief superintendents, although he is not a
member of the group.

The group was founded by the science-fiction writer L Ron Hubbard in 1952
and espouses the idea that humans are descended from an exiled race of
aliens called Thetans.

The church continues to attract controversy over claims that it separates
members from their families and indoctrinates followers.

A spokeswoman for the force said today: “City of London police had received
complaints about demonstrators using the words ‘cult’ and ‘Scientology kills’
during protests against the Church of Scientology.

“Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service some demonstrators were
warned verbally and in writing that their signs breached section five of the
Public Order Act.

“One demonstrator continued to display a placard despite police warnings and
was reported for an offence under section five. A file on the case will go
to the CPS.”

A CPS spokesman said no specific advice was given to police regarding the
boy’s placard.

“In April, prior to this demonstration, as part of our normal working
relationship we gave the City of London police general advice on the law
around demonstrations and religiously aggravated crime in particular.

“We did not advise on this specific case prior to the summons being issued –
which the police can do without reference to us – but if we receive a file
we will review it in the normal way according to the code for crown
prosecutors.”

A religion is defined by a beleif system that has a set of rules , and must have at least 100,000 followers .

Cult is from the Latin 'cultus' to worship. A church is a Temple.

The Scientologists do not seem to engage in 'worship' or have 'Temples'
but are called a 'Church;' I think it may be to do with the tax exempt status that Churches are entitled to.

Above: David Miscavige, leader of the Scientology cult

Generally a 'cult' in modern language brings into mind the idea of a group
of psychophants who are entirely uncritical of their 'Great Leader'
who tends to be revered or worshipped uncritically, which is certainly the case with 'L.Ron.'

If L.Ron says that you are surrounded by invisible space aliens (thetans), then it must be true.

Perhaps the police should also consider arresting the publishers of Time Magazine.

well, of course one could argue that it depends on your viewpoint if a certain group is a church or a religion. In some cases what is a church for its members may be regarded as a cult by outsiders.

However, most definitions of cults center upon the totalitarian power structures they display, and the organized and systematic mistreatment and exploitation of group members.

In France, where the government is traditionally quite tough on cults they define cults as being any religious organisation which can be characterised as employing any of the following methods:

Mental destabilization, exorbitant financial demands, encouraging or forcing a rupture with members’ original environment, all power in the hands of one person, the invasion of a person’s physical integrity, the recruitment of
children, antisocial preaching and troubling public order, activities
which lead it to be tried in a court of law, using parallel economic
structures, attempts to infiltrate the workplace, schools, and public
institutions.

This definition is used by ‘Mission interministérielle de vigilance et de lutte
contre les dérives sectaires (i.e. ‘Interministerial Mission for
Monitoring and Combating Cultic Deviancy') to monitor about fifty religious groups, the most commonly known of which are: Jehovah’s Witnesses,
Scientology, Mormons, The Universal Church, Raelians and The
Unification Church (Moonies).

I also like Robert J. Lifton's cult checklist:

* milieu control (controlled relations with the outer world)
* mystic manipulation (the group has a higher purpose than the rest)
* confession (confess past and present sins)
* self-sanctification through purity (pushing the individual towards an unattainable perfection)
* aura of sacred science (beliefs of the group are sacrosanct and perfect)
* loaded language (new meanings to words, encouraging black-and-white thinking)
* doctrine over person (the group is more important than the individual)
* dispensed existence (insiders are saved, outsiders are doomed)

The more of these factors are present, the higher the likelihood the group you are dealing with is a cult.

Could this be the New World Religion ???

It could well be one aspect of it, the Tibetan Buddhist religion is definitely the main focus in terms of the one world religion. Scientology is heavily inspired by and has its root its in the O.T.O, Tom Cruise who is the most famous member is also a Knight of Malta. It is one of these cults with has become rife in Hollywood and a few famous members have died since joining like Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac.

Oh what a fun topic. Ya know, I actually went to a local "Org" as its called here in Orlando, just to get a better idea of what I was dealing with. I always try and give people the benefit of the doubt, and see for myself.

I can say that after spending a few weeks getting to know these particular view point, it has some very "cult" like qualities. It has also been suggested that the Reptilians are behind it. One you tube video, produced by a British Journalist describes an exercise where she was in a room with another member of the Org. She said, she saw the person morph into a Lizard Type being.

My own experiences have been as drastic, every time I would leave there I felt very "foggy" and disoriented. And now they still send me letters in the mail and email as well. I have no intention of returning.

Take it for what you will.

No

You just want to be loved. You want someone to lust after you.

I could suggest numerous male souls on the David Icke forum, especially the anarchists here.

Lust is so common. Love is divine (godess-like)

Have you considered Zero.

He is an anarchist friend of mine.

I would love to buy him a beer.

Next week in Avebury, I promise to buy you both a beer/

That's because things seem unconnected, they want to stop all forms of meat eating and destroy traditional wedding ceremonies. You do realize the Dalai Lama is under Jesuit control and this is why Freemasons like Richard Gere have been promoting this "enlightenment" to the masses. Buddhism like all other religions is good if not taken out of context and used to oppress people, many of these EnvironMENTALIST group supporters are yuppies who would knowingly/unknowingly support the demonization of humanity.

Global Buddhism is the Zionist's dream come through as they can use it to push their "global warming" agenda, which is just as tyrannical as women/homosexuals being oppressed by Christianity/Islam, the difference is that Buddhism is a "good" religion on the surface. Supporting and believing in global warming is simply H.A.A.R.P denial and a lack of respect/empathy for the victims of the Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and various other manipulated disasters. The people of Tibet deserve freedom and justice, but unfortunately this is a part of a wider agenda again.

Crowley's influence on Hubbard

http://famouspoetsandpoems.com/pictures/aleister_crowley.jpg
http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53929

and make waht you will of this :rolleyes:

Possible origins for Dianetics and Scientology

"DIANETICS"

The word 'dianetics' is a variant of 'dianoetic', the earliest recorded usage is given as 1677 by the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. A group called "Dianism" was started shortly before "Dianetics". The founder of this group was a U.S. Navy lieutenant who had studied the works of Aleister Crowley. Dianism centred upon the eighth ritual of Crowley's OTO - the "magical masturbation". Curiously, this was the ceremony performed by Hubbard with OTO leader Jack Parsons in 1946.

It seems eminently possible that "dian" refers to "Diana", the Roman goddess, who in turn was seen by Crowley as the "dark goddess" - the Empress, Hathor, Artemis, Shakti, or the Babylon, or "Scarlet Woman", of the Book of Revelation.

http://www.boudillion.com/lam/Lam.jpg (http://www.boudillion.com/lam/Lam.jpg) http://www.boudillion.com/lam/Grey.jpg (http://www.boudillion.com/lam/Grey.jpg)
Lam "Alien"

Hubbard's ceremonies with Parsons were intended to incarnate this very force. Hubbard called his first daughter by Mary Sue Hubbard, Diana. He also renamed one of the Sea Org vessels the "Diana". (50) (http://home.snafu.de/tilman/j/origins6.html#F50)

In January through March of 1918 Crowley began a series of magickal workings called the Amalantrah Workings in furnished rooms in Central Park West, New York City. These were a performed via Sexual & Ceremonial Magick (his spelling) with the intent to invoke certain "intelligences" to physical manifestation. In actuality, the workings typically manifested as a series of visions and communications received through the mediumship of his partner, Roddie Minor.

Be that as it may, at least one such "intelligence" was brought into physical manifestation via the Magickal Portal they created. (A portal in this context is a "magickally" created rent in the fabric of time and space.) The entity that came through is the one pictured (http://www.boudillion.com/lam/lam.htm#Picture) above left. Crowley maintained the picture is actually a portrait and drawn from real life. This entity either called itself "Lam," or was named "Lam" by Crowley. Either way, he considered it to be of interdimensional origin, which was the term then for extraterrestrial. In communications with Lam, the symbolism of the egg featured prominently.

Crowley included the portrait of Lam in his Dead Souls exhibition held in Greenwich Village, New York, in 1919. In that same year it was published as a frontispiece labeled The Way to Crowley's commentary to Blavatsky's The Voice of the Silence. Beneath the picture was the following inscription: "LAM is the Tibetan word for Way or Path, and LAMA is He who Goeth, the specific title of the Gods of Egypt, the Treader of the Path, in Buddhistic phraseology. Its numerical value is 71, the number of this book."

Other than this, there is no commentary extant from Crowley upon the subject of Lam except for material published by disciples such as Kenneth Grant. Interestingly, Crowley gave the drawing to Grant in 1945.
http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53920

Question One Discussion: Based on face value of the evidence, a theory could be constructed that not only are the Lams "grey aliens," but that the arrival of the "grey aliens" in American UFO culture was facilitated solely by the magical workings of Aleister Crowley and later disciples working in his footsteps. There are official O.T.O. groups today, such as the Cult of Lam, that are dedicated to invoking the Lam entities into the earth-world. According to their literature, not only is contact with non-human entities an integral component of spiritual growth, but the "Lam Consciousness" of Lucifer-Gnosis is the "natural mode of human evolution in the present Aeon." Thus these grey-alien/Lam entities are deemed worthy of invocation into the earth-world on behalf of the interests of humanity's evolution.

David Miscavige, the vicious 5 ft tall midget who proclaimed himself leader of Scientology after serving Ron L. Hubbard on his flagship, repeatedly humiliated and beat up senior management staff of the CoS, according to a extensive article series in the St Petersburg News.

In the series entitled The Truth Rundown, which is spread over 3 days, 3 high-ranking Scientology defectors including two of the former top lieutenants to Miscavige, have come forward to describe a culture of intimidation and violence under David Miscavige. These former Scientology leaders served for years with Miscavige.

In the 1st report detailed descriptions are given of the physical violence they suffered at the hands of this pathetic midget, who joined Scientology at the age of 16. In the 2nd report (published today) insider information is given about the death of Lisa McPherson, the young Texan woman who became psychotic as a result of Scientology auditing and was subsequently "treated" at the Scientology HQ in Clearwater, FL. It is revealed that Miscavige played a major role in McPherson's auditing.

This is considered a groundbreaking event by many anti-Scientology activists.

I know out of curiosity I went to a local Org to see what the whole deal was with Scientology. There seemed something off about the members there and even thought I have expressed my disinterest in the group and its beliefs, I still receive emails and mail from the organization

They are persistent.
