I have a Wii. Several games, one of them is Mario Strikers Charged. It's like "football", but more interesting. As a multiplayer game it's somewhat entertaining, but as a single player game it sucks ass. Mainly because the computer is a no good cheat and makes playing a pain.

Normally the easy solution would be not to play the single player mode, but to unlock all the characters you have to complete the single player cups. The first cup is doable, I finished that, but the second cup is too tedious. Not to mention the third one.

When I got the game about a year ago I gave up after a few failed attempts at the second cup. But a little while ago I discovered the Homebrew Channel for Wii, that allows you to install all sorts of programs onto your Wii. One of the programs is the Ocarina cheating application. At first I wasn't interested in the application, cheating sucks. It's pointless. But then I remembered Mario Strikers. Maybe I'd be able to unlock all the characters.

So I tried Ocarina. It seemed to work. I finished the second cup earlier today by cheating (and no there's reason to feel embarassed or anything if I cheat, since the computer cheats more, I just cheat better), unlocked one character. A couple of hours ago I tried to finish the third cup as well. I was already at the semi-finals when the screen froze and there was an ear screeching noise.

I had to reboot the console. I checked the situation in the cup, and surprise surprise the game had been saved as if I had lost the match. And since it was a semi-final, a single loss means I lost the whole cup. I have to start the whole fucking cup from the beginning. And if I do that, who knows whether the game freezes again, and I have to start it all over again. So I refuse to play the piece of crap again.

But instead of simply giving up and forgetting the whole thing, I have this insane obsession, that I have to get all of the characters. I realize I might be able to find the save file on the internet (and feel a bit stupid for not figuring this out long ago). I found several sites with save files for the game, but the catch is my Wii is Japanese, and so is the game. All the save files are for the Euro or USA version. I tried looking in Japanese sites as well. There was only one site that seemed like it has the file, but it refused to work. There was one forum that had save files for other games, and I thought about posting a request that someone uploads the save data, but the forum site isn't working properly.

Long story short for those who are not interested in the geeky details:
I tried to find a short cut to finish an annoying game and get all the characters, but there have been so many drawbacks and "co-incidences" that it makes me think there is some force that doesn't want me to unlock all the characters right now. Either the force is of "evil" kind that wants to make me feel like a failure. Or it's a "good" force that wants to protect me from the crappiness of shitty gaymage. Or maybe it's just some bored trickster god that wants to fuck with me.

P.S. If anyone has any advice how to unlock the characters, or get the save file with clear data, I would appreciate it.

That was well funny! :D

You just reminded me, someone told my girlfriend that you buy a game, im sure its zelda for the wii, and you go on the net and do something and it puts like 100 games on that one disc, have you heard of that? Im going to go have a look to see if I can find it, been meaning to. I dont have a wii but friends and family have them, I want one, I had a shot of one the other day, resident evil, was well scary and hilarious, good game! Hope you get all the characters!

Yup, that's the Twilight Hack. It allows you to install the Homebrew Channel, which allows all sorts of funky stuff, like to play games from a different region, install emulators to older consoles. And one interesting thing is that it allows you to watch DVDs on your Wii. I find it quite interesting that Nintendo would put the hardware on a Wii to watch DVDs, but not the software. I don't think there's any official software that allows you to watch DVDs.

And yes the Twilight Hack works. It sounds pretty weird too. I've heard it works something like this: You have to finish the game, and get Complete data. Then you start the game and name the horse Epona with a name that's too long so the game crashes. In that mode you can install the Homebrew channel.

I didn't rename the horse of anything. Basically I just downloaded a save file from the internet and put it on my Wii, loaded the game and it crashed, and then I was able to install the Homebrew Channel.

The Twilight Hack is pretty suspicious as well. Why does it exist, how did someone discover it? The common answer is that geeks got lucky that there is such a thing, and other geeks were diligent and discovered it. But this being the DI forum, I have to suggest the possibility that Nintendo did it on purpose, and leaked info on the Twilight Hack to the geek community.

Why would Nintendo do so is a good question. To sell Wiis is one possibility. With the Homebrew Channel that possibilities of the Wii expand greatly. And with all the geeks creating all the programs themselves, Nintendo doesn't have to develop them. But the reason cannot be that obvious, it has to be more esoteric.

No prob. If you have a Wii, you should have the Homebrew Channel. I'll be happy to answer all your Wii questions, but I'm no expert. But at least I was able to install the Homebrew Channel.

That's what my brother said too. But it's Nintendo, they should have the money to pay for it, and it would bring them more money if they could say Wii is a DVD player as well.

a lot of time these consoles are sold at a loss or cost to get people buying them .....the more people have them the bigger the market and more money they get from games sales ....

Don't try to ruin my conspiracy theory with reason.
