Have We Met the Anti-Christ?

Evil is good at making us more conscious. Meditate on evil and you delve into the limitations of being human. Explore evil and you wonder if there can be a force opposed to Creation or perhaps whether the origin of evil exist within the Creator itself. The story of Job certainly suggests that God can be in cahoots with evil. Then again, maybe evil is an illusion, a result of a limited way of looking at life.

I have learned from my students, however, that people easily become uncomfortable talking about evil, almost as if they sense the presence of some alien awareness eavesdropping on their conversation. "Shouldn't we surround ourselves with light before we talk about evil?" someone asks. So we say a prayer and surround ourselves with light to protect us from the evil one. Afterwards, I point to my own heart and ask, "could there be any evil in here? Does surrounding ourselves with light protect us from what's inside?" My question raises perceptibly the level of discomfort in the classroom. Now we are under the spell of evil.

Evil is good at creating a sense of magic. From the beginning, the ambiguity about whether evil originates outside ourselves or from within us has been part of its mystique. In these latter days, when the world's future seems to wait upon the revealing of the script secretly written by divine destiny (or perhaps our own choices), evil becomes a hot topic. According to Bernard McGinn, author of Anti-Christ: Two thousand years of the human fascination with evil (Harper Collins), the ultimate reason for the existence of evil is to remind us of the importance of our choices. It is a supreme paradox that even within a history that may be divinely governed, our own choices matter.

The author is immanently qualified to pass judgment upon the role of the embodiment of evil within the history of our spiritual imagination. He is the Naomi Shenstone Donnelley Professor of Historical Theology and the History of Christianity at the University of Chicago and editor of the 80-volume series, Classics of Western Spirituality. In this current work, he takes us on the journey of evil from Day One to the Last Day. It is a history of theological debate within the Judaeo-Christian tradition.

I was fascinated to learn of the origins of the Anti-Christ legend within Jewish history and of the important role the Essenes played by their portrayal, within the Qumran scrolls, of the followers of Belial. I learned the meaning of more technical terms (millenarianism, premillenarianism, apocalyptic eschatology, fundamentalist apocalypticism, post-tribulationist) than I ever imagined existed surrounding the role of evil in the destiny of history.

This history revolves around two important issues surrounding the Anti-Christ, about which McGinn attempts to set the record straight.

The first concerns the character of the Anti-Christ. It is not, as most imagine, someone who worships chaos and pain and blatantly inflicts these torments upon others (such as a Hitler or a Saddam Hussein). As dramatic as this image may be, the tyrant role is more a secondary aspect than the essence of the Anti-Christ. Primarily, the Anti-Christ is the perverter of good. It is the Deceiver. It is someone who appears to stand for good, but actually does bad in the name of good. McGinn points out that the projection of a false image, of worshipping image over substance, has quite powerful and sinister implications in our age of global electronic communications.

The second issue concerns the identity of the Anti-Christ. Many people find fascination in the anticipation of a specific historical figure who will gain international prominence and become the final adversary in a climactic battle. Here we have myth disguised in historical terms, a key dimension to apocalyptic thinking. The fundamental identity of the Anti-Christ, however, according to the bulk of theological history, is that it is an inner figure. That is, the Anti-Christ lives within each of us.

What is this aspect of ourselves which would oppose the Christ? McGinn offers as a definition of evil, "saying no to love." He concludes that the Anti-Christ is essentially a force of self-deception opposed to love. The best candidate for this attribute, he proposes, is our tendency to worship doctrine rather than to practice love. The sin of self is the self-importance that our ideas of truth can readily attain if we are not careful. The true Christ spirit is not a law that holds fast in all situations, but a unique creative response from love that is a step beyond predictability. The Anti-Christ can manifest widespread horror in the name of an "ism" or wound a person's soul through the application of an "ology."

In a time of chaos and rapid change, we are naturally more tempted to cling to a particular belief system. When we use that security blanket as a weapon to coerce someone to conform to our image of how things should be, we are enacting the Anti-Christ. If the results of this hurtful tendency enables us to see how we've missed the mark, and motivates us to return to the mystery of love, then evil has served some good.

The reason i am belaboring the point is not to be mean but out of concern.

I was caught up in the Fundie thing for a time and know how disempowering it is, and how open it may make you to predation.

Every single time i have gone back to christianity in particular, disaster has followed..usually the death of one of my pets.

Please those of you who are fundies, consider what i say.

There is a deeper meaning than the literal, there is a HEART centered meaning for all of us to live out not just read in a book.

The major religions are all serving someone and it is not humanity.
When you subscribe to one of the major religions, it is my thinking that you open yourself up to becoming food, having your energy tapped.

My husband doesn't believe in this, but after enough go arounds, i am beggining to believe that based on my experience....and i have had some real hair raisers.

The last time i had fallen back into christianity, and one of my beloved pets died this last december, i began to see him out of the corner of my eye...i starterd to have some seering revelations.

Revelations like every major religion is a trap...that the indigenous people all over the seven continents had had few beliefs which allowed them to interact directly with the world of spirit which overlaps ours.

3) spirit realms exist right beside ours.

Older cultures like the greeks used something called a psychomantium where people would see their loved ones in a darkened mirror and could talk with spirits on the other side...while people like the Celts who were less civilized lived with spirit everyday...and lived reincarnation.
The less civilized the closer to spirit because the less beliefs you hold.
Simple as that. This is why children can often see spirits...and why tribal cultures often can as well..not because they are "better" but because they have less mentally twisted beliefs about reality.

The Establishment don't want you to know this for yourself, because you are an economic unit.
The only value you have to the establishment is your ability to produce or consume.
Older people are valuable to them because they can get the government to tax everyone to pay for you to consume..THIS IS NOT THE WAY I SEE THINGS, THIS IS THEIR VIEW.
They put a price tag on everything...and expect you to do the same.

Which is precisely why our society is one of the most hideously ugly and vulgar cultures that has ever polluted the earth...it is also one of the furthest from spirit...as was the Roman Empire.
(one of the reasons that a religion like christianity flourished in the Roman Empire is because you have to be so far away from spirit to entertain such insane notions about spiritual matters eg that a loving god would murder his own son for your sins, or burn anyone in hell forever)

I am just trying to warn you to not fall into the trap of organized religion.
I understand how comforting having the whole belief system laid out for you in advance...but it is a trap.

Your heart (subconscious mind) is the battle field, and they want to keep it littered with FEAR...they want to consume your soul.
They do that through organized religion.
That is antichrist.

Despite what your religion teaches you, despite what your culture and government teaches you I believe that humanity has been a long long time. From what I understand there was a time on earth when technology was at it's height and there was a use of spaceships weapons like those of today and other advanced inventions. Many actual people were sacrificed in the temples along with animals vegetation etc. . .to their 'god' or 'baal' in the making of necessary gases for crystals and lasers and such. The top of the pyramid shown like a beacon at night. This was their culture and the law of one. Yes, evil was magica then. And someone on a lower vibrational energy literally does eat
through the etheral lining through like a vampire.
If it's the breaking down of the old to rebuild for the new so let it be.

Often what is prophesied by our ancestors is later 'invoked' by human will.

The 'AntiChrist' is a particular figure depicted in John's revelation who seeks to take over the world militarily and economically; he is eventually defeated in an apocalyptic war, and a 1000 year agricultural revolution takes place where human suffering is no more.

The Muslims have their own version of this where the Madhi (a warrior Messiah equivalent) defeats the Ad Dijjal (anti-Christ equivalent).

Similarly in Messianic Judaism.

These predictions will and must come to pass; there may be divine providence, but the future is not 100% predetermined; the fulfillment of prophecy will not happen automatically by some miracle; it will require the application of militant apocalyptic human will and the magickal invocation (personification) of the apocalyptic characters.

The die has been cast. The stage is set.

It is simply inconceivable that the Capitalist and military elites will simply surrender their kingdom; on the contrary they prepare for apocalyptic war and martial law. Thus I predict the certainty of apocalyptic resistance.

John’s revelation would be quite familiar to those who have had experiences with shamanic substances which induce visions; you will find numerous shamanic trip reports on erowid.org.

Although such visions are common and there is often a message in such visions; it is much like a 'lucid dream' which should be taken too literally.

If we have a dream where for example, we are fighting a 7 headed beast, this dream may have an important message for us; but if we expect to see a 7 headed beast in real life, we will be disappointed and will probably lose the real 'meaning of the dream.

New Jerusalem .City of Light. Zion. 'Lebensraum' for the liberated slaves.

The New Jerusalem is described as a giant 'square' city whose city walls run for about 1200 miles; one side of the wall alone would be the distance between Glasgow and London; thus it is more what we would refer to as a 'nation' than a city.

It will be an illuminated transparent City where there is no Temple, no night or day, where nothing is bought or sold and where sickness and human suffering have passed away. This will of course require electricity and advanced medical technology; this is all quite possible.

The 1000 Year Agricultural Revolution.
