I get Alfalfa sprouts delivered occasionally with my organic salad box. They're a bit like water cress except they have a bitter taste and are used as salad garnish. They come in 400g cartons and I started eating them because they contain Vitamin B17, the active ingrediant of the banned anti-cancer drug Laeatrile (Banned not because it can't cure cancer, but because it can! Also I notice that B17 is not listed on the nutrician site I linked.). I used to take it in little does of about an ounce at a time because of its unpleasant taste, but once I ate the entire 400g box in one go.

When I did this I became very ill with indigestion and fever, but after a couple of hours I began to feel light-headed and developed very heightened senses. Tiny sounds would make me jump. I also started to see flashing lights, and shadows and shapes in my peripheral vision. Eventually I began to hear voices and music superimposed over background noise like a hoover or car engine. This is exactly the same symptoms of what I experienced on the single occasion that I took magic mushrooms! I had a mild psychedelic trip!

I did the same thing the next time I had Alfalfa delivered and it happened again. The third time it didn't; I just got sick!:p

Could Alfalfa srouts have some kind of psychedelic (or "entheogenic" as Alex Grey calls it) property. Try it yourself and let me know how you get on.

For those in the uk Pat Rattigan's source of laetrile or B17 is cheaper by half than that advertised on the DI website
See http://patrattigan.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/page4.html
for apricot kernels
Afraid you have to do it by old-fashioned cheque payment though.
Hey, I feel a little high off my consumption of kernels today
Don't know how that compares to alfalfa sprouts though. These are used herbally and homeopathically to increase appetite in the anorexic and breast milk in feeding mothers so it's an expansive herb

Mine are £1.75 a box!

I've just had another fix! No trip yet.

I'm constantly growing them from seeds and never had any lightheadedness from their consumption although 400g is a lot of sprouts!.

I've got the lightheadedness now, but nothing else as yet. The first time I did them I got similar effects to my mushroom experience: Seeing moving objects in the corner of my eye and hearing voices in background noise. I even heard the Monkees song "Daydream Believer" in the engine noise of a car!

Please be carefull with this. Can be very hard to get rid of "heightened senses" again. Can turn into insanity, but I guess your mind is strong.

I might as well try to give a fair warning... vampirism might be a fact. I have met people that might be or have been vampires. They are easy to simple burn with a strong reightous mind, but simply knowing about their essence and feeling lifeforce around you, can be dangerous. My nightmares are sometimes quite scary, when I lack sleep for a day or three.

Good to hear :) I try not to be influenced too much by anyone, since most people will just try to "help" you stop doing it :p

B17 get broken down into cinenide- which is not a problem in small amounts and is probably benificial, this could be causing the trips or it could be another ingredient. everything in moderation!!

I googled alfalfa sprouts and found this:
Side Effects
There have been isolated reports of people who are allergic to alfalfa. Ingestion of very large amount of the seed or sprouts has been linked to the onset of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in animal studies. It has also been linked to the reactivation of SLE in people consuming alfalfa tablets. SLE is an autoimmune illness characterized by inflamed joints and a high risk of damage to kidneys and other organs. The chemical responsible for this effect is believed to be canavanine. At the time of writing, there were no well-known drug interactions with alfalfa.

I went to bed soon after writing the above post and experienced no more weird effects.

I'll be careful. And I wouldn't mind an excuse to give them up because they taste foul. Psychedelics tend to. I've never had Ayahuasca, but I've been told it's got a revolting flavour. The mushroom brew I once had made me gag.
