The rare creature was destroyed of course.

It really saddens me this, i do not get the logic behind destroying these animals. Just make sure they don't get the chance to kill anyone else by being more careful, surely?

this is why wild animals should not be kept as an attraction.

I have no sympathy for the keepers, only the tiger.

They lose one of their man and seek vengeance.
Obviously, the others won't want to feed and take care of that tiger when one of their own collegues was killed by him.

Maybe sending the tiger to another zoo would have been a better solution.

i find it funny how they feel the need to use the word 'destroyed'

'put down' would be more fitting surely, 'destroyed' conjures up mental images of the zoo keepers slipping a grenade into his dinner or something.

I agree with the guy who said animals should not be kept as an attraction. Zoos should not exist...same as bull fighting and anything where animals suffer...including the mass and calculated slaughter of food animals.

But there's no easy answers are there?

What are you gonna do? Get the government to write rules for bans and abolition?

As soon as pens are in the hands of people and they are writing about what is right and wrong...we should really know that we're fucked.

Until the time that humanity instinctively knows what is right and wrong, just like they instinctively know how to breath, then we are nothing but a species in complete turmoil and psychosis...right in the middle of mass adolescence.

So until we reach adulthood as a species, we are all just going to continue crawling across a ground of broken glass

I have had the misfortune of watching "the lion man" the guy who runs zion wildlife park is just exploiting them for cash. He has a beautiful male lion that he hires out for tv commercials and also for the narnia movies. This guy is nearly as sickening as the late steve irwin who was famous for stirring up dangerous animals and reptiles.

Actually people who still go to the zoo are the ones to blame, they help keep this circus up. With digital media there is no reason to keep the animals locked, animal filmed in the wild is far more realistic than psychotic prisoner at the zoo. It's all about $$$

I watched the lion man programme where this event took place and I was horrified that he took the cubs away from one mother tiger after a week in order to bottle feed them, he said this was necessary so that in the future they would tamer and easier to handle.

On another ocassion he decided to move the mother whilst she was giving birth, she then rejected her cubs . Many wild animals in captivity do this, yet it never occurs in the wild.

ok i'm not saying i agree with zoos and what not, but mothers do reject their babies in the wild. i went through a phase of watching animal kingdom for a few months and all animals are capable of doing it regardless of where they are living.

and mice will eat their young if there is a threat to them!

The really sad thing is that white tigers should not exist in the first place; they are the product of inbreeding and the majority of them are born with major health problems. :(

I got my eldest son a hamster called Harry and later introduced him to a mate called Sally. Sally's first litter went really well, though she did nip into her eldest daughter every now and again as she reached maturity and we battled to home her. Seems Sally thought it was easier to eat her young than to raise them after that. I gave her away after she upset my kids by eating the next two litters.

Yip, as they say, tigers eat their young. I watched that lion man programme where he moved the female then took the cubs away because she rejected them and killed one.

Question.

As man encrouches more and more into wildlife territory how do we care for these animals if not in wildlife parks and zoos?

In Africa wildlife is hunted by the indiginous people as a way of survivial. The east and the west pay loads of walla in terms of what these poachers live on.

This goes back to economic pressures, peoples whos past was all about hunting have no other jobs, second problem is of course over population. More people than available jobs, people resort to anything they can do to survive.

Zoo isn't exactly best way to preserve species anyway, you need full blown reserved parks.
