ADHD treatment causes young boys to develop female breasts

A drug used to treat ADHD children is causing concern in the United States.

It is called Risperdal and it is supposed to be used primarily for adults with sever psychological problems.

But last year it was prescribed more than 6.5 million times.

The side effects include young males developing female sex organs.

Nineteen-year-old John was just seven when he began taking Risperdal for ADD.

Even though the FDA approved the drug only for adult patients who were psychotic, John’s doctor and others widely prescribed it to kids for less severe behaviour problems.

Once taking Risperdal, John’s mum says he became aggressive, sleepy, and developed bowel problems. But the biggest shock came when he was 14 and started developing women’s breasts.

“He asked me if he was a girl,” she says.

It turns out Risperdal can increase production of a hormone called prolactin, which stimulates breast growth. It is called gynecomastia – and it is irreversible.

Risperdal and other so-called “atypical anti-psychotics” have exploded in use.

Hundreds of thousands of kids have been prescribed Risperdal in the 14 years it has been on sale – long before the FDA approved it for very limited pediatric use in 2006.

John and most of the other children were not psychotic at all, but were given Risperdal for behaviour disorders including autism and ADD.

Attorney Stephen Sheller is suing Janssen, which makes Risperdal. He claims Janssen marketed Risperdal for unapproved uses in children, downplayed serious risks like diabetes and seizures.

Janssen would not agree to an interview but told us the breast growth risk is “clearly stated in the FDA-approved” labelling, and “we only promote our products for their FDA-approved indications.”

Nobody knows how often it happens. But in Janssen’s own clinical trials with fewer than 2,000 children (1,885), 43 developed the abnormal breasts.

Mr Sheller represents John and nine other boys – one of whom was only four when he developed a breast on one side and began producing milk.

The treatment for the unbridled breast growth is as unthinkable as the disorder: painful removal of the breasts.
Eventually, the boys can appear normal again.

The family’s lawsuit is still in court.

But John’s mother says surgery did not fix all of the problems from the medicine.

When asked if John still thinks he’s a girl his mother wells up and cries before answering, “yes.”

As for Risperdal – it’s still on the market. And families say putting even more children at risk.

It's a kitty petting a ducky! Awww!
But seriously, boo Risperdal!
If the name were more catchy it could catch on in our school. E.g. "Brian (cafétimes1991) is really actin' like a girl today... Hey, Brian! Have you been takin' Risperdal?!" They some stupid laughter followed by me cutting myself.

Oops... now how did that "side-effect" get in there.

Just like the TB-vaccine (oops again) causing sterilty and miscarriages.

Actually, gynecomastia , which is caused by an over-abundance of estrogen, is a side effect for tons of things.

Studies prove that plastic (which so much food is wrapped in) has chemical properties that pass onto the food increasing estrogen in males. This encourages all of the greasy snacks we eat to be stacked on the chest.

It's everywhere in America!

ADHD is probably caused by bloody food additives to start with.

I noticed with my kids that certain foods would send them insane. One of the biggest offenders here, proved to be so-called, "fresh, pure orange juice". It sent them bouncing off the walls, yet when I squeeze oranges myself, there's never been a problem.

We have friends whose kid was a holy terror and totally out of control. They took him to the Doctor, who diagnosed him with having ADD and ADHD and wanted to put the child on two different ADD and ADHD drugs. They refused and went home to do their own research on the internet. When they stopped bringing dairy products containing rBGH into their home their child completely calmed down in less than a week and has been normal ever since.

I really wish someone would start a thread listing safe foods and meals to eat...:(

The problem is that different additives (and even certain normal ingredients) have adverse effects on different kids.

The best bet, I think, is if children are acting up all the time, or behaving aggressively, or always too distracted to apply themselves to anything, it's wise to seek out a professional dietician's advice.

They'll go through a procedure to identify what the trigger is.

Far better than some robotic GP diagnosing an invented illness, and dosing the kids up on Christ only knows what.

It's not just milk, but anything made with milk also. That includes cheese, yogurt, ect. You have to make sure you eat certified organic milk products. The other chemical in milk is antibiotics. The cows that are given growth hormone are more susceptable to disease so they have to pump them full of antibiotics. They say it doesn't get into the milk, but that is a lie.

I know I've completely missed the point here, but I'm annoyed that this refers to breasts as 'female sex organs'. Breasts are about as sexual as lips are, and nobody goes around screaming 'Cover your face! Have you no shame?'... uh, ignoring purdah.

Absolutely. Food additives and Sponge Bob Square Pants are deliberately exposed to children by the New World Order to trigger things like ADHD. This is to get them started young on pharmaceuticals. The kids on Risperdal will be graduated onto Prozac when they are adults.
