I don't think this has been brought up anywhere.
I was under the impression that if you bought something under expenses then the item you bought was actually the property of the organisation that paid for it.
This would mean that any MP that sells their home should primarily repay any interest expenses back to the government purse from "profit" on the sale.
Any items purchased, furniture, TV's, white goods, etc., should then be returned to the government and auctioned off.
Let's face it, they're not going to try and stop feathering their nests. WHat else have we missed?

Why so? Expenses cover only the interest, not the capital sums paid for the house.

Not cost effective.

If you did not vote for them, they would not be in power.

ok, Let's say they buy a house for £500k, they claim £1200 a month for the interest payment on this mortgage (every other person has to pay interest), 5 years later they sell the house (let's assume a modest 5% growth in the value of the property), the property is now worth £638k, the government has subsidised this growth by £72k.
It would seem reasonable for that to be repaid from the profit on the sale price.
Nobody should benefit from expenses, I wouldn't expect to in my work, why should they?

don't worry about it, there's something else about mp remuneration that's nothing to do with expenses going to become public shortly and frankly, a lot of them are completely fucked.

Yes, I can imagine, we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg. The question has to be why now?
Where are they trying to steer us and how will they control us?

well there's the possibility that not all of the media are nefarious and this is their response to the erosion of our civil liberties aka having a pop at the institution, and the members of, who have been voting in all those totalitarian laws.
we, the great unwashed are in the middle of the crunch between the "old" order and the "new" order and we can either vote (in the european poll and the no doubt soon coming general election) for what we deem to be the lesser of two evils or just plain revolute and attempt to forge a third way.
i think this summer in the uk will be century defining.

what if its a way to clean the system so that they can account for every pound down to the penny. ie get rid of cash so that goes for every one not just mps. i known it sounds a bit stupid.but say they come up with the idea just a thought
