Hello, I'm making this thread for a bit of insight on something strange that just happened to me. I hope this is in the right place, and I apologize if it isn't.

I finally decided to meditate for the first time ever today. I had been toying around with the idea for some time, but just never really got around to it. I watched a few videos on it to see how others did it to have a basis to go from. I decided that I would do it my own way, so I situated myself comfortably in a chair and relaxed. I lowered my heart rate some, relaxed my breathing while still taking deep breaths, and let my hearing go out of focus. I started to hear this hum/ringing noise at first, but I ignored it and continued on with what I was doing. It grew louder and then suddenly I heard a loud crack and the hum/ring went away. I felt like I had a film of static electricity over my body. That was immediately followed by the best feeling of euphoria I have ever experienced in my life. All of the sudden I had these flashes of people walking on streets and talking, though the image was all in this hazy blue color and slightly fuzzy/out of focus. The talking was muffled so I couldn't really hear what was going on.

Has anyone else who meditates regularly experienced this, or is this something I should be concerned about?

Question.. was the 'crack' you heard more like a tiny 'growl/noise' that would come from a small animal?

Geesh, that sounds retarded.. but I hear these things from time to time when I get deep into meditation. I've searched along the web and it's pretty common, but most people dismiss the sound as a creeking in your house, (which is possible considering it's probably very quiet and you'd be susceptible to such noises) but I've come across a lot who say that its a common sign of entities around you.

It only happens to me occasionally when I'm deep into it and it almost always occurs while I start to sense outside energy around me.. I'll often get the 'spiderweb' feeling at the same time as well.

Haven't seen any visions yet, but I think you're definitely on to something. Keep it up. ;)

That's not a stupid question to me at all. I don't think there are any stupid questions because they all lead to learning more. :)
No the crack I heard didn't sound like an animal growling. It was sort of like hearing a frozen lake crack at night. I don't live near a lake, and it's almost Summer so there's no ice. It could have been the house creaking. It may have sounded different since I was in a different frame of mind.

Thanks, I think I will. It's definitely different for me and I like it so far. :D

Congratulations on re-discovering meditation.

One of the first rules (so to speak) is that whatever comes up 'within' meditation (and all in life physically or mentally or emotionally, just arises from 'within' meditation), is just stuff and nothing more. After all, you've probably spent your life up until now giving plenty of attention to stuff like that, and I'd take a guess that frustration with all of that led you to dabble with meditation? Meditation is a whole new approach. Flickering, light, pops, shakes of the body, twitches, images (some very real), memorys, audio whispers, euphoria, energetic sensations (however profound), and whatever else is just some of the adjustments taking place and nothing to make drama out of.

Or, just the false centre trying to get attention back. And it usually suceeds at first, because our habit is to jump back into all of that and to try and make sense of everything 'with' the same lense you've always been using. Nobody can really help this shift of perspective. Plenty of warnings exist, but it seems we all end up going through that stage of looking for profound things to occur in meditation, to make sitting there seem 'worthwhile' to our imposter centre (which makes everything in life into a "Worthwhile? Or not?") . It wants food and up till now has always got it, one way or another.

Initially in meditation, all kinds of junk pops up, so it feeds on this. Games like this can even distract people for years, making a big deal out of hypnagogic matter that arise. Later on, if nothing is there, it will even start waving hands in front of you by conjuring up amazing visions. The old saying - "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him immediately" is referring to that. If you get what the you you think are you, 'wants' or 'expect' in meditation, then it's a con in some form. Over time you'll find that if your intentions in meditation were sincere, then you won't take these things out of meditation and run with them. But will simply rest in the formless meditation that you are, while this stuff arises or not. Gentle non cooperation with the usual 'stuff', is what meditation is really. Emotions are harder to not get caught by, because they are invisible. But sooner or later you feel those are also just arisings within your true self that is formless.

Good luck :)

My intentions for making this thread are not to 'make drama' as you rudely put it, or cook up some sort of mental reward for doing it. I made this thread to seek information from people who regularly practice meditation, because it was unexpected and new to me. My intentions in meditation were to simply relax and clear my mind of the constant buzzing of trivial aspects of society, nothing more. The stuff that happen, just happened. I wasn't expecting anything like that, nor was I craving it. I'm just trying to figure it out. There's offering people words of advice, and just being tactless and rude, and don't think I didn't catch that.

I don't think Void was being deliberately rude. Tactless maybe, but not rude. :)

There's a tradition in which all distractions, both everyday and esoterically strange, are treated as equally irrelevant. The goal is always to let go of them - all of them - and to keep meditating, no matter what. If your nose itches, keep meditating. If your wardrobe starts to levitate, keep meditating. If you keep getting accurate premonitions of next week's lottery numbers - keep meditating.

That's too hardcore for me. But it works for some people as a point of view.

Strange noises and sensations while meditating would likely be related to your energy body becoming stronger and more obvious. Meditation develops and liberates the energy body, so all kinds of things can happen.

If you take the hardcore view, you should ignore the weirdness. But if you want to take a detour, any kind of energy work could be a good thing to investigate.

Actually it is very beautiful what Void is saying. And very true also.
There will be all kinds of phenomena coming up during meditation.
All Void is saying is: don't pay attention to it. When it comes up, just observe and don't cling to it. After some time all the phenomenae will just drop away and you be left with stillness and awareness: your true nature.
I think that is what Void was saying. It is good advice and I don't think there is any derrogative intent in it.

And you got it. But mind didn't like what was said (which is fully understandable).

I'm just trying to figure it out.

Warning about that, was my message. Attempting to figure it out,is the trap.

The stuff that happen, just happened.

Exactly. Now it's gone and is the past. Now is now.

Good luck, and again congratulations on re-discovering meditation. :)

Thank you, this makes sense and is what I was looking for in regards to helpful information.

I think there was some, but I understand why he did it now. What you say is true as well, thank you.

I understand what you were getting at now after going through it again, thank you for taking the time to explain this. I apologize for misconstruing your helpful information as well. I'll try and do what you've suggested from here on out, thanks again. :)

Hi there. No problem. It's understandable that it may have 'appeared' like it was a personal dig at you. But it was just a long term forecast (so to speak) about the same 'ideas' that always arise in all of us when we get into meditation. :)

oh I think you answered an "orbs" question I posted...

thx

Do you have any links or names for the type of meditation you do? I have no clue where to start.

cheers :)
