Why do people celebrate getting older?

I just dont understand why people are all jumping for joy coz they are getting older, maybe I am missing something here.:confused:

I guess the only thing I can think of is there is less time to wait before you pass over and get out of this shitty illusion.:)

I read a scientific report that said that older people used their brain in a more whole way. When tested, both the group of young people and the group of old people solved the problems given equally good and fast, but that the brain scans showed that the younger people used different areas in the brain from one moment to the next, while the older people used the whole brain when solving the same problem.

maybe by not celebrating we are saying we are not worthy of much so we should love ourselves as well ? i used to be of the opinion that it was another year closer to departing here , but you could die in anaccident etc anywhen so you cant really mark time like that .


Apart from childhood when its gimme gimme i want i want , the reason we probably celbrate peoples birthdays is to show appreciation for the person and there contribution to us in our lives .The rest of the year people are running round like headless sheep trying to get by, so i suppose its taking time out to celebrate relax etc . We should just aknowledge each other more each day and appreciate the benefit of ou r family and friend s then maybe we wouldnt need to place so great an emphisis on the day .The solar return the point at wich the sun returns to the part of the sky it was in when we were born .There is a danger that as we become more jaded and cynical there is less reason to celebrate and more negativity and misery in our world so party on i say to others , personally i dont celebrate but other people always seem to want to do it , so we should let them and not reject the love they wish to show .:D

is what i said and the point i was making .People i know do show how much they mean to each other all year long , butthe one day is special for each person to be given total attention and pampering a small way of giving back .The commercial interests of the birthday industry wouldnt want to see us stop celebrating but you dont need to spend vast amounts of money to show you care for each other

The reason is simple - chalking off the years to retirement when your life is your own again and hopefully you are well enough to enjoy it :D:D:D
