For a couple of weeks now, I've had a malware on my computer that throws up pop-ups (Complete with error report to Microsoft ~ as if they're going to do anything), with links 'pertinent' to what is displayed on my monitor...
I've just had the following link pop up whilst on the Freeman on the Land forum.

Any thoughts?
Anyone know of any good spambots?

I use 3 simple things to keep my laptop in check;
Avast! Antivirus (does nothing more, sennds no hidden info about your computer or anything like that, and doesn't use much CPU)
CCleaner (Cleans and disintegrates all traces of temp files and cookies/caches and the like.)
PerfectDisk10 to defrag my shit :D
since I've had this combination I havn't had any kinds of shit that you're talking about :) maybe you should try them lol..

Malwarebytes has always seemed to sort stuff out when I have needed it.

sounds good although I seem to remember reading something slightly bad about AvastAV, not sure though
I currently use the Piriform (CCleaner guys) defragg(L)er as well on this computer, am trying to find a superior one to suit my needs though. Will take a look at the one you use :)
I have gone for periods of sometimes years without any AV and in those periods never had any problems simply because I was and am clued in enough to not get my computer sick in the first place. There are some very sneaky very malicious methods that can totally fuck you if you don't have live-monitoring of your processes preventing unwanted injections though so sometimes a daily scan is simply not enough, just like having a cough-remedy/medicine on standby isn't going to prevent the cough originally.

Good, but I recommend PerfectDisk10 as it has important features the previous versions don't.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I've been using it for roughly 2yrs now and no serious problems thus far :) I've probably just jinxed it though lol

Thanks for your feedback...I'll try some of those.
I'm usually quite careful / despotic about my computer...something very sneaky has got in though.

Is formatting an option? Start from scratch?
I had thought of that...but spending an afternoon / evening doing that would really piss me off.
I know it has to be done sometime soon...yeah; that's the answer...I know.
(then don't have sex without a condom ever again....)
thanks,

Like some already did, I recommend Avast (http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html). I hope you're already using Mozilla Firefox! Or Opera. As long as its not Microshaft.
When you visit websites they are logged on your cookies so advertising companies check your cookies and display ads that are related to what you recently visited.
If you dont want ads at all i recommend a program called Ad Muncher! Its not free but its the best thing ever. It automatically blocks every single ad and pop up out there! And they update it too as new ads come out. Its great going onto websites with no ads :D
If Malwarebytes does not resolve the issue, you can try the security forums- they handle this crap daily.
