I recently had quite heated discussions with a staunch Cancer Research donator! And thought it might help others to defend their stance on "charity sucks"! Obviously, most people involved in charity work do so with the best of intentions ...but do they know the Chairman went home with a quarter of a million in 2008?

Cancer Research UK gives the appearance of being the warrior of fighting Cancer in the UK. Well, Cancer Research UK obtained 477 million pounds in charitable donations between 2007-2008, previously between 2006-2007 it was 420 million pounds. They received 10 million pounds in legacy funds.

Cancer Research admits that they spend £130 million pounds on actually generating those funds! 2.5 million pounds on Supporter Relationship Management! This is a strategy for the future management of further fund-raising!

They try to tell us that the work they do actually cost them last year 341 million pounds so the poor loves are just about breaking even then!

They have the gall to specify that they have recently transferred 92 employees to universities and made 1.6 million pounds in pension top-up payments!

They also try to show that their NET INCOME is 10 million pounds but after accounting they appear to have suffered 40 million pounds of unrealized losses!!!

They say they lost 35 million pounds on investment losses and a further 5 million pounds on pension losses!!!
But they expect these losses to be regained in the future as they are long-term securities!

Oh right, so no worries then!

They have 3,935 employees that receive pay of up to £ 60,000 per year
They have 38 employees that receive pay of up to £ 70,000 per year
They have 30 employees that receive pay of up to £ 80,000 per year
" 21 employees that receive pay of up to £ 90,000 per year
" 9 employees that receive pay of up to £100,000 per year
" 7 employees that receive pay of up to £110,000 per year
" 1 " " £120,000
" 4 " " £130,000
" 3 " " £140,000
" 2 " " £150,000
" 2 " " £160,000
" 1 " " £260,000

So, do Cancer Research donators know that their donations are being invested/played on the stock market and are topping up employees pensions, as well as funding some of the highest paid workers around in a recession? I've not heard of jobs being lost by Cancer Research UK yet!

Oh but they do specify that they don't invest with tobacco firms or anything dodgy like that!

They spent and are continuing to spend further sums on new research buildings - why? It's not as if they can say they're on a winning streak!

So, with all that money what has been achieved? - NOTHING!

Cancer Research UK claims –

"Cancer Research UK is the European leader in the development of novel anti-cancer treatments."

"We are training the next generation of cancer scientists and doctors."

"More than a million people donate regularly to Cancer Research UK."

"Over one million women have walked, jogged or run in one of our Race for Life events."

These are their best quotes on the website, none about lives saved by the research!!!

When I typed in SUCCESS into the search box woefully hoping to find the success stories of hundreds of people who have benefited from this "charity" I found there was 1 success story from a woman about her husband who survived cancer 4 years ago and the rest are success stories about successful events!!!

I just couldn't read anymore I became pretty sick!:(
