After reading this article by Matthew Delooze (http://www.matthewdelooze.co.uk/readarticle.php?article_id=33)on obelisks and ferris wheels and energy lines. I found this in my home town.

now looking at the pyramid bridge from the top of the obelisk

you can see the pyramid shaped bridge opposite the obelisk. also below the bridge is a merry go round thats been there the 20 years i lived in southport. would this work the same as a ferris wheel?

you can see it more clearly in this picture. out of shot to our left is the merry go round outside 'funland'. also you can see the queen victoria monument, does that have any significance? this picture is a more recent one, they have no pedestrianised that area and moved the statue from facing fun land to now facing the obelisk and war memorials.
