David Duchovny says the long-awaited film could hit theaters in 2008.

July 14, 2007 - At the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, David Duchovny was in attendance to promote his new Showtime series Californication. During the event he was asked about the often speculated about second X-Files movie. Duchovny said that it was indeed going forward, and added that "Gillian [Anderson] is onboard."

After the event, I was among a smaller group of journalists who spoke to the actor further, and Duchovny was asked why he felt so confidant the movie was happening this time, after years of rumors about different scripts. Duchovny answered that the reason he was sure about this script was because "I'm actually supposed to see it next week! Before I would just say that [there was a movie] because they told me, but now, after talking to Chris [Carter] -- he's been giving me progress reports -- and he actually called yesterday, and said 'Next week, you should have something to read.'"

Asked to confirm earlier reports that the movie would be a standalone story, and not part of the larger mythology arc of the series, he replied "It should be. It should be a one-off, yeah."

I then asked Duchovny what the schedule for the film might be, in terms of both shooting it and releasing it, and he said "I think it was November, for a summer release." When asked if that would be summer 2008, the actor nodded.

Duchovny said he was looking forward to playing Fox Mulder again, and when asked why, answered, "Because he's cool! It's a great show and I love playing the character and I like the people."

The manuscript is by Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz, Chris Carter will also be the director.

Seen a clip of it on youtube, shame, such a clever guy and he settles for this? He's a fantastic director/writer...his x-files episodes were some of the best ones ever...shame he still thinks with his penis! :rolleyes:

I realise that my view on this will make me an enemy of some people here but I really think some people need to take a step back and look at this "x-files" phenomenon again.

I have read a LOT of 70`s sci-fi over the years and I absolutely promise you that the x-files does not contain one single original idea.

When it first came out, I was excited.

After 3 episodes, I was angry.

Nobody else seemed to see it.

This made a lot of people stop listening to me.

Read Isaac Asimov or Michael Moorcock.

This "x-files" is an insult to our intelligence.

Boooooo!! X-Files rocks! Books are (almost) always better than the videos, but, sans some episodes, it's a cool series and gets people thinking about fucked up shit like chupacabras, shape-shifters, aliens, etc.

You're an idiot if you take fiction for fact and don't do any further investigation. Did you expect them to spell out the twisted reality behind the drama?

Plus, Gilean Anderson has quite a strangely attractive mystique which gives me a boner. :D

it's onlt a bit of fun x-files, however i never could have imagined that when i'd grow up i'd find out most of what was featured in it is exacltly the ay the world is lol an dis actually happening.

But that's the whole point, x-file sis nothing like anything round in the 70's, if you only watched it 3 episodes and were angry (so obviously stopped watching or at least getting the concept of x-files) then how do you know? The show lasted 9 years!

Anyway it's about mulder and scully and their story, x-files made me who i am today and if it wasn't for that show, my life was so bad back then growing up, i wouldn't have got through it.

The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running "mythology" plotline — that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort — that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late 1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and ambiguous.

"We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads" when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie. "We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one."

He says the delay may turn out to be a blessing.

"There's a whole audience I want to introduce X-Files to," Carter says. "There were kids who couldn't watch it on TV because it was too scary. Now they're in college. I wanted a movie that everyone could go to."

Whether they will could be a test of the show's legacy, says Blair Butler of the G4TV network, which caters to video-game enthusiasts and science-fiction fans.

"At its strongest, it had really creepy stand-alone episodes," she says. "They turned it into a great franchise. But a lot of years have passed. We'll see if it's fallen off the radar."

She says the film could benefit from an ironic twist: the Writers Guild strike.

"I think it could be a sort comfort food for the people who loved how original the show was and aren't seeing original TV now," she says.

But Carter believes they'll be drawn by something else: the show's stars, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

"For me, The X-Files has always been a romance," he says. "They had an intellectual romance that's very rare and restrained compared to so many relationships on TV. I think that's what appealed most to the fans. And they're back."

It's known as the 'Ming Pao Alien', supposed captured alien from a crash in China in 1977. Officialy it's a hoax, the pictures were sold very expensive to the tabloids($ 200 000) but IMO thats not enough to stamp it as bogus.

Ten years after the last “X-Files” movie hit theaters, the team behind the hit sci-franchise is tossing out some tidbits about the sequel, currently scheduled for release on July 25, 2008.

The film, which has not yet been named, will mark the return of David Duchovny as Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Scully, two FBI agents who investigate the paranormal.

It is being directed by Chris Carter, creator of the series that ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002.

“I know what I want it to be, but Fox has ideas of their own,” Carter said of the title. “I know what it should be.”

What he and co-writer Frank Spotnitz did reveal this week during the 25th annual William S. Paley Television Festival, was the trailer [appearances of it on YouTube have all been withdrawn]. It featured lots of snow, running, a large syringe and a helicopter.

The film will pick up six years after the end of the series. It’s supposed to be a standalone feature removed from the alien mythology of the TV show, a throwback to the show’s “monster of the week” episodes.

Still, some lingering aspects from the series, like whether Scully’s child will be a normal tyke, will be addressed.

“It will not be a mythology movie, but it’s true to everything that’s come before,” said Spotnitz.

1X19 Darkness Falls

When thirty loggers disappear in Washington state whilst clearing trees in a remote forest. Mulder pulls some strings to get assigned to the case, which mirrors a similar X-files case back in 1934 when a group of loggers disappeared without a trace. Mulder and Scully are joined by Larry Moore from the Federal Forest Service and Steve Humphreys a representative of the lumber company. They uncover evidence that the loggers have been victimised by a group of ecoterrorists, militant environmentalists who sabotage lumber company equipment in retaliation for what they are doing to America's forests. When their jeep falls victim to traps laid by the ecoterrorists, they have to continue on foot. On arrival at the loggers base of operation they catch one of the ecoterrorists, Doug Spinney looking for gasoline. He tries to warn them that there is a swarm of insects that come out at night and attack people. Humphreys believes the story is a fabrication to explain the loggers disappearance and pleads with Moore to arrest Spinney, when Moore declines Humphreys leaves the group to hike back to the jeep but is attacked by the insects. The group discovers evidence of the insects in a core sample from a large tree felled in the forest. And conclude that the insects are hundreds of year old, trapped in the tree and released when the loggers cut down the tree. As night closes in and with the generator running low on fuel they soon discover that you should be afraid of the dark.

What do you think about chris carter, he seems really true to me...gillian and david both looked really uncomfortable when the 9/11 type stuff was asked...which i didn't like but chris is so cool, like he knows all this stuff and feels it from the audience...

It looks awesome! Some of my favorite episodes were the stand-alone monster ones. It's just good to see them on the big screen again :D I can't get the theme song out of my head now. The crowd seemed very excited! :)

Those aren't my sites...just did a bit of searching for trailers that weren't yanked off the net yet. I wish I had the time to put something like that together.

I love how they hint about th conspiracy stuff. But it's usually not just conspiracy stuff! It also has little hints about life and little lessons and stuff, especially at the end of an episode. That happens a lot. :)

Distributor 20th Century Fox signed off on the title Wednesday.

The title is a familiar phrase for fans of the series that starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents chasing after aliens and supernatural happenings. "I Want to Believe" was the slogan on a poster Duchovny's UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson's Dana Scully worked.

"It's a natural title," Carter said in a telephone interview Tuesday during a break from editing the film. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. `I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."

"I Want to Believe" comes 10 years after the first film and six years after the finale of the series, whose opening credits for much of its nine-year run featured the catch-phrase "the truth is out there."

My favorites : the ending season 1 , The Amazing Maleeni, start season 8 & Je Souhaite:cool: Basically they're all great.

you mean this in a bad way or good way? i know that cause i was so young when i watched xfiles it completely bypassed my brain and i was fully on the way to being a paid up member of the princess club, then a book came into my hands and i'm in this club instead. :D

Xfiles doesn't program.

You either question things, or you don't. Either way the elite are still running the show, i don't see how that changes how they've engineered our society to be the way it is today and what it means for our futures.

In spite of the commercial failure of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, producer and screen writer Frank Spotnitz said that a third and final film is definately something he'd be keen to do.

If a third X-Files movie is done, it would focus on the symbolic date of December 2012, when an alien colonization would happen.

The exploitation of the 2012 date by Roland Emmerich in his 2012 movie coming next year is not a problem for Spotnitz, as they would be completely different films.
