If there is a central consciousness witnessing this design, through infinite forms, which happen to include 'life' as we know it, I would have no problem calling that consciousness 'God'. This is not a 'God' who will speak to you through burning bushes or send you on any holy war - the real God is (as known by those who have witnessed) beyond personal limitation and quite beyond anything we can conceive in this dimension.
Like the gravity particle or consciousness itself, 'God' is everywhere and omnipresent but we cannot deduce it's material source. This is the infallibility and omnipresence of 'God' that religious fundamentalists do not see and which scientific rationalists will never be able to 'prove' but is truly present.
Gravity is the observable effect of the omnipresent consciousness which holds everything together and is one of the many extradimensional influences on us which we take for granted.
I am not saying gravity is God, but that gravity is, as quantum physics has found, extra-dimensional in origin. God is the totality of all dimensions, making him most certainly infallible.
Gravity is consciousness and this is why we cannot capture it or measure the source. Not only is gravity a display of consciousness, but every other facet of existence which we are accustomed to and have deduced to formulae are the blatant displays of extra-dimensional forces which we cannot perceive in this reality. Let it be known that every major religion has pointed to the origin of existence being extra-dimensional, or heavenly inspired. As told in the stories of all ancient scripture, there are in fact beings unknown and worlds unknown that do influence this reality: but this is for another topic.
It is the fact that a child learns to walk that demonstrates his understanding of gravity and how to overcome it. Beyond that we are not encouraged to seek further understanding of gravity. As adults many of us are under the assumption that gravity was 'figured out' by Newton. Nothing could be further from the truth. Gravity, like God, will never be found, but is constantly displaying itself for us in ways we do not understand in this dimension.
The problem is organized religion has destroyed the syntax for the names of God and Science is allergic to the concept of an omnipresent 'being' of any sorts.
Consider the single cell of a living body, without a mind of it's own, it can't comprehend belonging to the body. But a cell with consciousness (living organisms) is intimately aware of it's connection to creation. We call this awareness 'consciousness' and 'life' but are we aware of it's brilliance and multi-dimensional intricacy?
Why would Science and Religion separate on the issue of God? Because the definition is fucked.
All creation is your consciousness displaying and witnessing itself to infinity, this is a mathematically observable fact yet Religion and Science are divorced to keep us from reconciling this with our concept of reality.
Quantum physics has already demonstrated that infinite realms of existence are not only possible but are directly interactive with our own consciousness.
Science and Religion found each other a long time ago and are both too embarrassed to admit it.
